A sentiment I can get behind, now that I've joined the ranks of wise old rats...

Hello! Here is the new link for Chapter 12.
https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/billymink_12_burgess_128kb.mp3
Length - 2:37

In the original, I said it too fast and I said the last syllable a bit quietly. This time, I made sure to make it so it can be heard nice and clear. Also, I will be sure to include the year in future recordings from now on, it is awesome that this will stay for some time!
Thank you for having me in this project!

Chapter 12 is now PL OK. The program Checker notes a 'moderate' level of background noise, but I'm not finding it in any way objectionable. In particular, the (low level of) background noise isn't any distraction from the story. Thanks for the fix.

Billy Mink is fully assigned, but you'll easily find lots of other books to read!

[You wrote about having troubles with your recording setup. I noticed a bit of noise at extremely high frequencies (16kHz to 20kHz) that seemed a bit odd. I didn't hear this noise - I don't hear much of anything in that frequency range - but I spotted it using Audacity's Analyze / Plot Spectrum... tool. It's not a problem at all - it is very quiet indeed at -80+ dB - but it's kind of unique since most people's recordings don't have anything in that frequency range. It might be something to check on occasionally to make sure your microphone/preamp/AtoD aren't starting to do odd things. I hope that's not the case; the reason to buy new microphones and related stuff is mic envy, not mic failure.Rich Brown]

Rich, thank you for your input. (See what I did there? Input?) I will do some practicing to see if I can figure it out. When I edit my chapters I don't notice anything odd but will begin to use the Analyze/Plot Spectrum tool (when I figure out what that is!)

The mic is new, or relatively new, and I HOPE it's not that.

Chapter 33 still needs work. You fixed the extra word "the" and the closing silence length. The opening silence is still nearly 5 seconds but it should be about 1/2 second. The overall volume is in the LibriVox range but - in my opinion - the first version you uploaded carried much more of the expressiveness in your voice. I've made a page showing how I would have adjusted the original recording to get the volume within range.

See it here: https://fullloon.com/BillyMink/

Larry/silverquill may have additional comments.

So, at a minimum please adjust your original upload to trim the opening silence to .5 seconds and add to the ending to get 5 seconds of silence, then amplify the entire track by .4 dB which will get you in the LibriVox range. -Or- take a look at the page and see if you want to try something like that.

Hello Rich,

Thank you for all the recommendations. Here's the updated file.

Length:3:33

After, just a few hours of YouTube tutorials, I think something clicked. Hope it shows in the changes. :)

There is a world of difference between this version and your previous upload! Your voice sounds like your voice again and all the timing errors are fixed. So you know, the overall volume for the chapter came in at 88.4 dB, which is nicely near the middle of the range.
Chapter 33 - The Farmer Sees A Strange Sight - PL OK. Those tutorials seem to have done the trick for you. Thanks for your extra work.

Oh, and the illustration in this chapter in the Gutenberg book is a strange sight indeed.

(Billy Mink is now 80% complete.)

As book coordinator, let my add my thanks and congratulations on a job well done.

There is a lot to learn here, and I'm sure your efforts are leading you along the path. There will always be more to learn and experience here. I still go back to some of those tutorials, and there are new things coming out. We have a talented and helpful global community here. :D

So, I hope we will hear a lot more of your voice here on LibriVox

And, a big thank you to Rich for his extra help and advice.

Just two more readers to complete this book!

One thing right off - the file name is for chapter 1 in the book, so you've overwritten the chapter 1 nedge uploaded some time ago. Not to worry too much; I believe our book coordinator silverquill can recover the original chapter 1 (and in any event I also have a saved copy of that chapter). The file name should have been billymink_14_burgess_128kb.mp3

I'll be back soon with the prooflistening results.
