The Centaurians, by Biagi (Lottie Ambrose)

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/the-centaurians-by-l-d-biagi/
Published in 1911, 15 years before the first verified discovery of the North Pole and in the same year when F. Cook published a memoir claiming his own discovery of the Pole, this short SciFi about the discovery of the Pole and the civilisation on the other side which is supposedly 6 centuries in advance compared to our own, was doomed to sink in the unknown from the beginning on. But reading it a century later, this SciFi shows its own charm by conveying the general sentiment in the society short before the big discovery and the motivation behind the continued exploration despite the associated hardships. Some predictions, such as the manmade diamonds, even came true very recently, while some others are overtaken by the real advancement in science already. (Summary by myself)

This looks like an interesting book. You are volunteering to BC it, then? Have you read over this page about what a BC is expected to do in order to run a group project? https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=How_To_Become_A_Book_Coordinator

If not, please do so and then post here again to confirm whether or not you're ready for this responsibility.

Hi, thank you for the links. Yes, I‘m volunteering to BC it, though I would also be happy if someone else were ready to BC instead of me. I definitely need a PL and would like to ask aradlaw whom I knew from another project.

Cheers

Hi gyllila, let me MC this project for you. Have a go at BCing, I think you'll enjoy it, and whenever in doubt about anything, feel free to ask me, though I also don't have all the answers

Also, if you haven't got a DPL yet, I would enjoy listening, thank you.

I'll go set it up with a Magic Window, and post again in a bit.

Magic Window is in place!

In order to access it, you'll need to create a password for it. Here's all you need to know about MWs https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/BC's:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Start with "Accessing the System – First Time Login" to create your login password. Then you can fill in the Magic Window with section titles and word-counts or page-counts, and text links, or however you want to organize it. Let me know if there are problems. Then you can use your new password for the uploader, too; it's the same system.

I have changed the author to Biagi for the intro and filename, as the book was published under that name. I will mention in the Author's Page, that this is the pseudonym of Lottie Ambrose and both names will be searchable in the database, but Biagi will be the main one.

Thank you! And how can I access the magic window? I logged in as BC and changed password, but only see the projects for which I am a reader. Maybe I should wait one day for the neu project to be registered in the database?

And again I’m glad for you to be my DPL. :)

Great! Now I have divided the text into 24 sections, with the longer chapters 10-12 cut into two sections each. If you prefer 21 sections as before, simply let me know, I will undo the changes. Also let me know if there are any sections you want to read, I’ll put you as the first reader on the list.

OK, if nobody wants, then I will kick the ball and take chapter 1. There is a bit Latin and Italian in the text, but I will try my best to cope with it.

Thank you again, Rapunzelina!

Here is my first recording:

Duration: 41:53

Pity, that nobody else wants to read. This is a long story, but not boring.

In the mean time, I will start with section 2.

Best,

Section 1 is PL OK!

I have found the same text on gutenberg https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/61609

You have the slightest background white noise, and was wondering if you have tried light noise reduction to see if it makes any difference. In these low levels it may as well make no difference

I have no access to gutenberg here, but I can add the link to the opening post so that others, who have access, can use this link and possibly get more motivated to read. ;)

Light noise reduction sounds good, I will try it out for the coming section. Thanks for the tip.
