Section 7 - A Vow

Have you noticed how the men in these legendary tales are always ready to sacrifice their womenfolk but never their menfolk, i.e. their sons :hmm:

I know what you mean with AiW... the pipe-smoking men and the very strange discussion sounds a bit psychedelic. A strange choice for the magazine. I wonder who wrote that story. It's annoying the editors don't give appropriate credit to the authors

All PL ok, Jim, thanks :)

 to be fair I think in this story the chief didn't have a son. But still....this vow was despicable under any circumstances.

Update: sorry...I forgot I had found a few small issues to correct.

> at 2:52: (p. 192) repeat "and all that remained of the great and noble collected around him and spoke thus" – one version can be cut
> at the end: you need to insert the final book disclaimer as well, since you have the last section: "End of The Rover Volume 1 Number 12, edited by Seba Smith and Lawrence Labree"

And as promised...the next issue is up and ready !

I have been having some tech issues; I think they are ironed out now but if you hear anything weird like a delay/echo in some parts, let me know

wow this was a long section, and you narrated it brilliantly and dramatically. And no, I didn't hear any tech issues or strange audio-echos. All sounds well to my ear.

I got curious and had to look up the original poem, and they nearly copied it word-by-word, only in prose lines, instead of the original which looks like a poem: https://archive.org/details/poeticalworksofb02corn/page/n15/mode/2up very interesting how different it can sound just by making the text lay-out differently.

I found a couple of things to correct though:

> from 7:16 to 7:19: (p. 183) between "the fond Isabel" and "dark eyes Guido": the pause of over 2 seconds felt a bit long for me...I would cut down to under 2 seconds here. I think 1.5 maximum is enough, even between paragraphs.

> at 17:27: (p. 184) "of the piny boughs" – you say "bows" (like "bow and arrow") this is "bough" (rhyming on "now") if I am not mistaken. :hmm: I think it changes the meaning a bit

Thanks !

Thank you thank you

Corrected the file:
7:16 shortened tastelessly overdramatic pause (don’t usually like chopping up inhales but took a long gulp here for some reason)

17:22 changed weird ‘piny beaus’ to appropriate ‘piny boughs’ by replacing phrase starting here, “until...”

Should be same file name, new length 28:51

 now that made my day ! I wouldn't have put it that harshly, but yes...it is much better now that it's shorter.

When I encounter such long silences in a text it feels to me as if I am holding my breath until the story restarts and depending how long that silence stretches, it really gets uncomfortable.

Now PL ok, thanks. I hope to hear you in one of the future Rovers again. 8-)

Excellent work, Sonia. It is PL OK, of course. But how did Mary die? Is the mention that she has been faithful serve as a deflection, so that when we discover she is dead, it is even sadder? Also, his handling of the corpse is a bit gruesome. Maybe these things help make Phillip's total collapse more convincing. I enjoyed it. Jim
