Nice recording - only one small fix needed. Your silence is a touch short at the beginning. Could you please add ~0.5 seconds so that you will have between 0.5 and 1 second of silence at the start.

No issues with the rest of the recording. :)

Thanks,

M

Re: Chapter 10: I did leave exactly 0.5 seconds of silence at the beginning, so I'm wondering why you're asking me to change that? Can you please review?

Looks fine to me at 0.5
The guidelines used to say, "no more than one second."
Somewhere it changed to .5-1 but this is certainly fine.
I'll mark it PL OK.

Thank you. I must admit I didn't enjoy this chapter, not due to your reading of it, but because that bird is brutal. I don't think I'd like one in my yard.

Anyway, the is one easy fix for your recording. You just need to add around 1 second of silence at the end to make it around 5 seconds and you'll be PL OK.

Section 23 is PL OK.

Just one comment for the future, no need to do anything on this file though, there are a few "plosives" in the recording, see, for example 2:07 in "practice of singing" and 3:36 "pinch bits of". Information is available at https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Improve_Your_Recording.

I see you have an "OK" on your test recording so you are welcome to record for this project.
I do need to know, however, exactly how you would like to be listed in the LiibrVox catalog -- real name, pseudonym or any nickname you wish. This is how you will be credited for all of your LV work.

Also, it is a lot easier for us if you include the Section number from the Magic Window when making a request.

Anyway, welcome aboard!
You have Section 22 to record.

Thank you! I will use section number next time. I would like to be credited as Lily Kuntz. Here is section 22:

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/westernbirds_22_grinnell_128kb.mp3
Duration: 05:46
Thank you. I have a few comments on your recording.
1. There is too much silence at the start. Please remove around 1 second as you want between 0.5 and 1 second of silence at the start.
2. I recommend that you run the file through the noise reduction feature of audacity or whatever program you are using to clear up some of the background hum.
3. At 0:08, there is a snap in the word "western". This doesn't need to be fixed here but if you do fix it please let me know.
4. At 1:05, there is a loud snap, could you please delete.
5. At around 3:42, there is a rather lengthy pause. Could you please shorten it to match your other breaks.

I would suggest that you pay close attention to your recordings for the next few to try to eliminate the lip smacks that occur.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

M

The additional second has been added!

Corrected length is now 6:32 I'll have to pay closer attention to my mental math when calculating those silences.

Yeah, they are a surprisingly vicious bird. I vaguely remembered them making an appearance in the Redwall series, but had no idea of their eccentric methods of hunting/storing.

Here is chapter 24 on the Towhees. Quite an enjoyable chapter, especially the description of the nest building.
