Hi!

I have uploaded the Chapter 5 of the Greek Literature. It is appx 27 m 35seconds.
My original headphone in which I recorded went bad and I recorded on a handheld microphone. This may have altered the recording level or some other settings. Let me know if you I need to change anything.

Tijiva.
Hello, Tijiva, and thanks for your recording.

I don't know if what I am going to report first is caused by the different microphone, but I have observed fluctuation in volume (besides the problem pointed out by the BC, that is, the overall volume of the recording is a bit low). But actually it is low in some parts and loud in others. For example, listen to the part between 00:15 and 00:20. The change in volume is significant. But it is not just in the intro: if you skip to 00:32, you will see it becomes quite low again. So, I suggest you try equalizing the volume within the track.

Also, I think you might want to listen to your recording again and edit it a bit more. Usually, we edit out the pause we make when turning a page, for example, because it creates a strange silence in the middle of a sentence, as well as the small stumbles and repeats when we read a word wrong. I have listened to the first ten minutes of the recording and found a few instances of this kind of problem. I noted down what I found, but I suggest you edit the whole track, and then I can PL it again. :)

00:43-00:47 - Long silence
00:53 - I think you read a different word: sometimes the eyes deceive us when reading old books in pdf. It should be cosmogony
02:04 - stumble: "helped to win a great victory for freedom"
02:53 - sounds becomes really far and low
03:48 - stumble: the Athenian colony to Thurii in Italy
04:50 - stumble: he is a true heir
05:17-05:20 - awkward silence in the middle of a sentence
06:11 - stumble: deal with the Ionic revolt
07:15 - stumble: The Persian wars were an event
around 07:30 - drop in volume
07:54 - stumble: at Athens in the later fifth century
08:09 - repetition: In law, all important cases came before
08:34 - stumble: in Sicily, gained an immediate footing
09:30 - repetition: For his unorthodox views on religion
09:38 - stumble: and fled from Athens

As a suggestion also, I would like to point the pronunciation of Thucydides, available here: https://howjsay.com/how-to-pronounce-thucydides

Thanks for the comments. I will fix the issues that you mentioned. The volume one is a tricky one and will try to equalize the volume in Audacity.

I think you confused the file in the post above... but I found the correct one at https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/greekliterature_01_tillyard_128kb.mp3 :D

The section is a tiny bit (0.8dB) above 92, which is the limit. But Devorah might say if she would like it fixed or not. Other than that, the file is PL OK. :)

I didn't run it through the checker before I uploaded, my apologies! I can adjust the volume and resubmit, NP!

I'm not too worried about that volume difference. I can fix it during cataloguing. Thanks for the quick turnaround!

We just need corrections from Tijiva, and then we're ready for the catalogue! Nice work, everyone. :)

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to, but I think that it's time to orphan section 5. There are too many errors to correct without the reader, and they haven't logged in in more than a month. :(

Anyone interested in Early Greek Prose?

I would like to claim chapter 5.
This will be my first recording.

Tips or anything specific to this book that is being noticed?

I am so glad that you are interested in this project. Unfortunately, another reader claimed this last chapter just a little while before you, and I hadn't had the chance to update it yet. The good news is that there are plenty more projects going on right now that still need lots of readers! And if you're still wanting to learn about Greek literature, well, this book should be available for listening very soon!

I hope to see you around the forums! :D

Thank you, Heather! I tried to respond this morning, but I had connection issues off and on all day, so it looks like my reply never actually posted.

Still, I appreciate you for claiming this last role, and for getting it done so quickly! Stand by for your PL report.
