PL note:

feedback on the 39:14 recording for Section-57:
00:21 Please add the chapter title before starting with the content. The missing part is "Chapter XVII. Britain under James I by S. R. Gardiner (part 2)" before the beginning of the main content of the section "James, indeed, had no desire for an exclusively Protestant alliance."

Many thanks for the nice reading and recording, the rest is all perfect!

Regards,
Jessie

Do you still want me to rename and upload the mp3 for section 56 with the _various_ included?

Glad to see the site back up!

PL note:

Thank you for the very nice reading and recording. I only want you to please consider the pronunciation of the following three words that appeared in this section.

6:30 "accrue /əˈkro͞o/" was read as "acure" in the sentence "... expected to accrue."

Palatinate in the following repeated spots:
14:30, 14:43, 16:52, 17:26, 18:04, 21:59, 22:15, 22:54 - 22:55, 26:29, 27:35, 28:33, 29:23, 29:46, 33:55, 35:40, "palatinate /pəˈlatnˌāt/" was read as "palatine" in the following sentences in sequence
"... on the subject of Palatinate",
"... the support of the Palatinate",
"If James could save the Palatinate by diplomacy ...",
"... the Upper Palatinate ...",
" ... in the Lower Palatinate ... ",
"... the neighbors of the Palatinate ...",
" ... and the Lower Palatinate ...",
" ... both the Upper and the Lower Palatinate ...",
"... in regard to the Palatinate.",
"... the restoration of the Palatinate.",
"... in the Palatinate was to be had from Philip, ...",
"... the restoration of the Palatinate was another, ...",
"... to recover the Palatinate.",
"... to liberate the Palatinate ...",
"... on the way to the Palatinate, ..."

27:07 "repugnance /rəˈpəɡnəns/" was read as "repungence"

Regards,
Jessie

PL note:

8:00 "Don" in the name "Don John" was like "Jon John" to my ears. Maybe I am wrong!

Many thanks for the nice reading. I look forward to more of your readings!

Jessie

Thanks for PLing, Jessie! I have two other technical PL notes:

1) At 92.4 dB the volume is a bit above the upper limit of our target range of 86-92 dB (89 dB being ideal). You don't have to change this recording, but you can reduce the recording level a bit for future recordings (in Audacity it's controlled by a sliding bar).

2) There's a moderate amount of background noise. Noise reduction is a standard part of LV workflow. Here's how to do it in Audacity

Step 1 - Get a noise profile
Select a piece of background noise (without speech or breaths) in your audio, such as the final pause.
In Menu click: Effect > Noise Reduction...
Click "Get Noise Profile"

Step 2 - Apply noise reduction
Select your complete recording (click on the left pane or press CTRL-A / Command-A)
In Menu click: Effect > Noise Reduction...

Set Noise Reduction (dB) to 6
Set sensitivity to 6
Set frequency smoothing bands to 1
Choose Noise: Reduce
Click ok

If the noise was higher you could use reduction 10 or 20 dB, but I think 6 dB should be enough here.

If you want, you can check these and other technical specs of your recordings yourself using the Checker program:

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker

Thanks,
Michael

Hi All
I’m very new to LibriVox but am interested in joining the project eventually.
I have just sent my test recording to Kazbek, but if Leni is the MC, I should have sent it there.
I admire your work and hope I may contribute.

I would like to claim Section 66: Chapter XIX, The Dutch Republic, part 4, please.
