Acadia: A Play in Five Acts, by Mary Kinley Ingraham (1874 - 1949)
Acadia: A Play in Five Acts takes as its subject Acadia University, a school located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. The play was published in 1920 when the playwright, Mary Kinley Ingraham, was serving as the university’s librarian, a position she held from 1917 to 1944. Ingraham had previously attended Acadia University as a student and received both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree there. Her love of her alma mater is apparent in this play. The characters are symbolic representations of different aspects of the university and its culture. These characters include personifications of academic subjects such as Science, Art, and Theology, as well as of other concepts important to the university such as Truth and Learning. At the time of this play’s publication, the university was still reeling from the effects of World War I, in which many members of the university community had fought and died. For this reason, War is featured prominently in the play. The dialogue evinces Christian themes, as the university had strong Baptist affiliations at the time, and Ingraham was the daughter of a Baptist minister. That this play is in verse points to the fact that Ingraham was not primarily a playwright but rather a poet; her poetry was published in a wide variety of periodicals throughout her lifetime. (Summary by David Purdy)
There are two unusual things about this project. Firstly, because this play is about Acadia University, I thought that it would be appropriate for all of the voice actors to be Acadia alumni. The play is therefore closed to readers who are not Acadia alumni. I am recruiting the voice actors among my Acadia alumni acquaintances. The other unusual thing about this project is that it includes nine songs and a short piano piece. Two Acadia alumni have kindly agreed to record the music for this project, and Michele Eaton will be our DPL.

This is set up. :)

It's not my business, but I did notice that the hymn "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name" you linked to is to a tune I'm not familiar with. I've heard it more using the next one in that hymnal, 450b. Your mileage may vary. 8-)

Thank you very much for your willingness to be the MC for this project, Tricia! It's good to have your vote of confidence. Also, thank you for looking through the music. If the musicians wish to go with the other tune for "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name", that's quite alright with me.

It has been over 3 months since there has been any activity in this project. Are your alumni still interested in doing this, or should we put it on hold for a while, or open it up to other readers?

Thanks for checking in, Tricia! I apologize for this project taking so long. There has been activity on this project in the past three months, but it has consisted of me adding people’s names to the MW and corresponding with them outside of LibriVox. I received a message from one reader today who said that she will be submitting her recordings by the end of this week. A couple of the songs are also recorded already, but they haven’t been uploaded yet. I’d be grateful if you would be willing to leave the project open, as I think it will be worth the extra time it will take to have this all recorded by alumni.

Okay, sounds good.

Perhaps in future, you could post in the thread when there's activity - or at least some of the activity, such as "3 more people signed up for sections" so that the thread doesn't sink to the bottom of my "threads of MC projects" list. ;)
