The Merry-Go-Round, by W. Somerset Maugham (1874 - 1965)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-merry-go-round-by-w-somerset-maugham/

Volunteers outside the USA: W. Somerset Maugham died in 1965. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.

This is an abandoned solo project, brought back as a group project.
Basil Kent marries Jenny Bush, because he believes that is the honourable thing to do after getting her pregnant, but he realizes that he is really in love with Hilda Murray. Grace Castillyon, a married woman of position, has fallen hopelessly in love with young Reggie Bassett, who is only playing with her. Bella Langton ignores the short remaining days of Herbert Field who is suffering from consumption, and determines to marry him so that he can afford to spend the winters abroad. The Merry-Go-Round weaves together these relationships, adorned by the peripheral figures of Miss Ley and Frank Hurrell, observers of what is going on, who also have their own stories to tell.

After finding a much better text for reading from, we are now open for readers! I would love to get this one into the catalog soon, it has been sitting in my folder, idle, for more than a year.
