The Emerald Story Book, by Various ( - )

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-emerald-story-book-by-various/
There is no richer theme for children’s stories than the miracle of Spring. The selections in “The Emerald Story Book” aim to serve the young reader’s interest in three ways. Some of the myths and legends are interesting or amusing because flowers, insects, or birds are presented as personalities and emphasise human qualities or feelings. Some of the stories and poems contribute to the child’s store of knowledge by attracting his attention to some fact, beauty, or blessing in nature which may have escaped his notice. Still others make an appeal by suggesting or affirming the abiding hope symbolised in the thought, “See the land her Easter keeping.”

The child’s heart is filled with the joy of spring,—with the rapture expressed in the thrush’s song which Mrs. Ewing describes. “Fresh water and green woods, ambrosial sunshine and sun-flecked shade, chattering brooks[vi] and rustling leaves, glade and sward and dell. Lichens and cool mosses, feathered ferns and flowers. Green leaves! Green leaves! Joy! Joy!”

[Trying out the new first post template!]

Some of these sections are short poems. There are only a few. I have thought about it and think it's best to use the standard intro/outro for these poems since they are part of a larger project.

And we are open for claims!

Ooh, I definitely want 54. But I'll go look at the book for a couple of other sections.

I'd also like 31 The House Wren by Neltji Blanchan

but I have a question about it. The TOC lists the poem separately with a separate author. Since you haven't I'm assuming you want the poem read within the story. Do you want the title and author for the poem mentioned or not? I'm not sure of the best way to proceed.

Thanks,

M

Thanks for starting us off M!

Since the poem comes in the middle of the House Wren section, I'd like it read as one section. Pause before and after the poem, but no need to give the title or the author at that point. Then at the end, please say: "the Poem, The Little Brown Wren which was included in this story was written by Clinton Scollard, end of section ##"

Thank you!

Hi thood. I'll mark you down for sections 1-4.

As this will be your first recording for Librivox, please have a look at the NewbieGuideToRecording and also read carefully through all the notes in the first post of this thread if you haven't already done so.

We also highly recommend that you send in a short test recording to check that all the technical requirements are good before recording a full chapter. Instructions are here:

http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

Your personal reader page is here: https://librivox.org/reader/15736. I'll also need to know by what name you would like to be listed in the catalog. If you have a personal website, that can be linked to your reader page as well.

Thanks and welcome to Librivox. :)
