Kitty wrote: January 9th, 2021, 12:00 pm hey again, so I saw you already had your test approved  fast worker here, cool.

So I opened your reader page here: https://librivox.org/reader/15569 where you will have all your projects listed. If you want another reader name, just let me know and I can still change it.

And your section is now officially claimed for two months. Please read the first post carefully, all the details for correct file naming and correct intro/outro/title wording are listed there.

Any questions still: don't hesitate to ask. Have fun with your first recording !

yes I changed your reader name, ok like this ? https://librivox.org/reader/15569

and wow ! a powerfully uncanny story to start this issue. I had goosebumps all throughout the narrative, especially starting after the woman heard "Mamma". It reminded me too much of the setting of the "Shining". And then the ending with the Avenger didn't lift the mystery at all. Who were these people and what did they do ? Maybe the unsettling power is rooted in the mystery that is never really explained.

Excellent reading, you really did very well and I enjoyed listening to it :) I do have a few notes to correct, but it's mainly a few stumbles and repeats that can get cut to make it cleaner. Since you are a new volunteer I will advise you: do NOT re-record it all from scratch ! Only spot correct the parts I point out. It's too much work to re-record such a lengthy section and it's also too much work to re-listen to it all as DPL ;) so editing is really encouraged on the forum, rather than re-recordings.

If you need help on how to efficiently edit, please don't hesitate to ask. But basically if you zoom in, you can cut out the stumbles easily. And if you have to re-record one sentence, it's easy to paste it into the correct slot.

So here is what needs doing:

> at 1:32: (p. 1) stumble and repeat: "exchanged commodities with one another"

> at 2:02-2:04: (p. 2) between "from the south" and "in a concord coach" – the pause is a bit long, seeing it's the same sentence

> at 4:33: (p. 3) "in appeasment of their wonderful appetites" – you say "appointment". Also the pause here could be trimmed at bit as well

> at 5:37: (p. 3) stumble and repeat: "and devoured with avidity"

> at 9:18: (p. 5) stumble and repeat: "all night they worked"

> at 10:25: (p. 5) stumble and repeat: "when a little cooing voice"

> at 15:10: (p. 7) stumble and repeat: "so that the light fell upon his face"

> at 21:00: at the end we should leave a standard of 5 seconds of silence, you have over 7 here, could you cut two seconds please ?

Simply keep the exact same filename as the first recording when you reupload. The old file will be replaced by the new one then.

Oh and can you please always mention the length of a file when you post the link, so we can update the Magic Window accordingly ?

Thanks, great first job  Hope to hear more from you again.

oh ! this was a bitter/sweet story :( so sad somehow, I really felt for the ex-convict. I'm not sure I would have reacted like Dorothy.

Very sensitively narrated, Greg, thank you so much, I really enjoyed it. And PL ok right away. Maybe I'll hear you in another Black Cat along the way 8-)

Thank you, Sonia. I was a bit surprised at her reaction as well. We don't know what her first husband was sentenced to life in prison for but it had to be something bad. And yet, she was willing to give him all the money she had in an instant.

The line that said he spoke softer than usual (or something close to that) tells me he must have been a harsh man at one time but changed during his imprisonment. I suppose thst touched something in her heart?

Anyway, it was a nice read and I appreciate being part of another one of your projects!

Take care,

Greg

oh, you actually thought differently than me. I meant, I would not have sent him away like that, I would have tried to integrate him again into the family. I think she still has a soft spot for him, but now feels dury-bound to the new guy. Also: I would not have taken to a new man so quickly ;)

Maybe I'm too soft-hearted :hmm:

ok sorry for the delay, Todd :) But now I listened to the wonderfully spine-chilling narrative. Although I was convinced from the start that it was only a hallucination, the sweat-breaking tone of your voice in the barber-shop scene made me cringe nevertheless. It really sounded like you experienced it too while reading. A thrilling story, fittingly acted out  And PL ok.

Thank you so much !

 wow Mike, now this was a creepy story. Sort of ghost-story mixed with a Jules-Vernesque man-eating plant. I suspect the woman may have gotten devoured by the plant, but can we be sure ? :hmm: I even love the mystery remaining in the end, even though I usually like a credible outcome of a story.

Wonderfully narrated, especially in the dialogues. Loved it.

There is only one small cut to make before this is finished:

> at 14:10: (p. 23) stumble and repeat: "as Lenartson shrank repulsed from the un-" – can get cut

thanks, and maybe I'll hear you again in one of the next issues.
