I am new can I go under the name Ann E.
Hello, Ann and welcome to Librivox!

Two of the four sections you mentioned have already been claimed, but I can reserve Sections 9 and 11 for you for one month. This will give you the time to complete your one-minute-test, which we recommend, before you start recording anything in a project.

The test's purpose is to check that your technical settings are all up to LV standard. You can read all about it here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

Please post the test in the Listeners Wanted forum: viewforum.php?f=21 and someone will check it and give you feedback or advice if needed.

As soon as the test is ok'ed, please post the results back here, and then I can assign you the sections officially.

A good practice is to install the Checker app on your computer. It is used to check the technical settings of your recordings, including the volume. It can be found here, along with instructions for use. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker Its three general outcomes are "PASS", "FAIL", and "PASSED WITH WARNINGS". A "FAIL" probably means the tech settings are wrong. A "PASSED WITH WARNINGS" probably means the recording is either too loud or too soft ... when this is the case, the MP3 can be easily fixed using the MP3GAIN app, which you should also install on your computer. It can be found here... https://mp3gain.en.softonic.com/ Set the Target Normal Volume to 89.0, run a Track Analysis, then if it's not 89, run a Track Gain, and it will adjust your MP3 file to approx 89. Very quick and easy.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Good luck with the test !

Great readings, Larry, and all PL-OK.

The section numbers appear to be a practice that some of the MCs now seem to favour. The following is from the TriciaG on the James Hebblethwaite poetry project...

"I'll MC this.

Might I suggest using a Section # in the intro for 1-74? Unlike a poetry collection, these are printed in order in a book. Using the section # will help listeners stay in order.

This might work:
"Section [number], [Poem title] by James Hebblethwaite, read for LibriVox.org" by [your name]" or some variation on that, adding date, location, etc., if you wish."

then "End of section [number]. This LV recording is in the PD" for the outro."

I hear where you're coming from re the text navigation of the Google Books reader, Larry. Unfortunately it was the only PD text for this Australian poet that I could find online, even if it is about as easy as using an old papyrus scroll, ancient Egyptian style. But if Yul Brynner's old role of Pharoah ever comes up in our Dramatic Section, you'll be a shoo-in for the role now!

I'm also new to reading for LibriVox.
I have done my 1 minute test, and had someone OK it.

I'd be interested in Sections 35 and 46, if that works.

I am working on installing Checker, but it seems the Java I installed is too new. Linux and still getting used to it.
Edit: strike that, have Checker working now.

I'm happy to just go by cadwallader .

I've recorded chapter 4 if you want it. I won't post it here until I'm sure nobody else has claimed it!

It was a nice voice warm up so I'm not worried if it's not used.
