Brain and Personality, or the Physical Relations of the Brain to the Mind by William Hanna Thomson (1833 - 1918).

One of the earlier works on psychology, relating what was then known or conjectured about the connection between the physical brain and the individual personality. ( TriciaG, to be modified before cataloging)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    .
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    .
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    .
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/brainpersonality02thom
    .
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Goodness, how tempting! :9:

As an eternally lazy person, could I do the last two sections on sleep please?
Cheers, Ava.

Please gimme all unclaimed sections; Sections 1 to 8 and sections 12 and 13.
I wish I could have all the sections but my mom taught me to share lol.
I intend to specialize in the brain and nervous system (neurosurgery) in the future and it seems not many are choosing this type of book haha.

Edit: I see new replies. I'll take sections 5, 6, 7, and 8 so others can take the remaining sections :D

It really is tempting haha. Do you intend to specialize in the brain also?

Well, that certainly got all claimed quickly! 8-)

Ellastew121 - How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname or forum name, some their real name) and a link to a personal web site or blog, if you have one. I recommend using whatever name you say (if any) when you say, "recorded by [your name]" as that's how listeners will look for you. (Keep in mind that prospective employers, classmates, enemies, etc. can also find you using the catalog name, so be cautious if privacy might be an issue.)

Also, we do STRONGLY encourage a one-minute test (LINK) to check your technical settings. It's not an audition, but to make sure you're exporting at the correct bit rate, have your recording in mono, etc. before you embark on longer recordings. :)

-

Thoria - Thanks for reducing your claim request. :) One option for you, if you're really that interested in recording as much of this as possible, is to solo it yourself. I'd recommend getting a few group recordings under your belt first, to get your feet wet and experience the work it would take to record a whole book, but we allow "choice of voice" - so it's not a problem if you chose to do a solo version of this book. Keep in mind, though, that we don't allow audio files to be reused, so you'd either have to re-record the sections you do here, or you could simply not record in this project at all. Just a thought. :)

Thank you. I can see I've been assigned.
I do not understand what you mean by "we don't allow audio files to be reused, so you'd either have to re-record the sections you do here." Can you please elaborate on that statement?
However, I'd very much prefer taking some sections than not taking any at all. I'm fine with a solo or a group project either way. I'll try solo some other time when I get the chance.

My thought was that if you decided you wanted to start this book as a solo recording and do the whole thing, you are welcome to do so - but that any recordings you submit in this group project couldn't be used in the solo. You can't submit the same audio to more than one project. So you would need to record a second version of whatever you did here.

It's not really something that needs much thought, unless you did decide to do your own version of this as a solo. And you have plenty of time to think about that. You certainly don't have to rush into anything. ;) I'm perfectly happy to have you in the group project!
