I think you should read it however the poem inspires you to, Wayne.
Many thanks,
Chris
Chris,

I first read it without the 'accent' and the more I thought about it, as the Australian 'accent' is really the newest one I have tried and am working on, I thought I probably couldn't keep it consistent through such a long reading, so American is what you get. But like you said, with just a couple of words that may sound a little strange or out of place to an American ear if they listen closely, this could also be the story of our country.

Hope you like it.

A perfect reading of the poem, Wayne! Just one thing in the outro at the end ... you've said "This poem is in the public domain", which indeed it is, but we should have "This recording is in the public domain" so that people know your recording of it is not copyrighted.

If you want an example of a strong Australian accent in a recording, there's this:

Some of the slang therein's a bit old-fashioned these days, but my accent's modern enough.

Gizzylove wrote: November 24th, 2020, 1:17 pm Hi! Can I claim section 9, section 10, and section 20 please? :D
Hi Gizzylove, and welcome to Librivox! Great to have you aboard.

For the time being, I can reserve you Sections 9 and 20 (Section 10 was already claimed earlier) for one month. This will give you the time to complete your one-minute-test, which we recommend, before you start recording anything in a project.

The test's purpose is to check that your technical settings are all up to LV standard. You can read all about it here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

Please post the test in the Listeners Wanted forum: viewforum.php?f=21 and someone will check it and give you feedback or advice if needed.

As soon as the test is ok'ed, please post the results back here, and then I can assign you the sections officially.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Good luck with the test !

Thanks, Wayne, all good now.

I know that that poem always gets to me, as it were, so I can well understand a little involuntary lapse in the reading of the outro just seconds after finishing reading the verses.

Thanks,
Chris

Signing you up!

You know, it's a spooky coincidence  that someone with the handle "Nifty" should turn up in an Australian poetry project. For many years when I was growing up, "Nifty Neville" Wran was the Labor Premier of my home state of New South Wales. Here's a photo of him that needs no caption:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rB3bu4eE7b2wIkgKmuMeGSAP2eBSOFap/view?usp=sharing

I'm sure you're smoother than him.

Chris,

I thought, after I read the first one, that I might like to come back and do another. How about 5, The Nation Builders? As I read through this, it almost seemed like the inside look at the last four lines of The Women of the West. Almost explaining the 'male' side of those lines.

Wayne

It may be a little while, but I will get it done. :)

Certainly, Wayne, I'll sign you up for that one.

"The Nation Builders" has a great metre to it; I've always found that after a few stanzas, it builds till it seems to align with one's pulse.

Well, here it is, a little faster than I expected.

As I was reading this my wife said "That sounds like a really good poem". I agreed with her and told here that it was an Australian poem about Australia, and she said she thought it was about our country. When you think about it, the settlement of our two countries are really quite similar in many ways. :D
