Great, thanks! Since this looks like the first time you'll be assigned a section, let me know under what name (real or nickname) you would like to be credited in the catalog. We can also include a link to your personal website or blog, if you have one.

Also, now that all the sections have been claimed, this thread will be moving from the forum Readers Wanted to Readers Found -- just so you don't lose it. :)

Hello Michael,

I've uploaded section 42. I ran it through the checker, but please let me know if I missed anything. I'm eager to get feedback and improve my speech, pacing, etc.!

Hi Andrew,

This is a great first contribution, agreeable and easy to follow. There are just a couple of pauses that need to be shortened (by highlighting and deleting a bit of the soundwave):

1) Almost 4 seconds of silence at 4:34. After 3 seconds the listener may start to wonder if the recording is still playing. I would generally recommend ~2 seconds for longer pauses, like those marking a change of subject.

2) Over 7 seconds of silence at the end is too much. Our standard is ~5 secs.

When you re-upload the file, please note the filename. There was was an extra ".mp3" at the end. We also ask listeners to tell us the duration (mm:ss) for every upload.

In terms of feedback (and only since you've asked for it), the flow could be further improved through editing by shortening the occasional unexpectedly long pause/hesitation in the middle of a sentence. In general, I think your pacing was great. To be clear, you don't need to change anything in the recording except the two points above, but if you do decide to change anything else, please give me the timestamps, so I know which places I need to spot-check. :)

Thanks!
Michael

Thanks Michael! I've trimmed the silences and renamed the file.

This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I tidied up a few places, and here are the timestamps:

2:20
2:47
4:46
7:22
13:20
20:25
29:16
36:56

(It occurred to me that doing this chapter as my very first recording is kind of a trial by fire...it switches languages every other sentence and I am not great at that!)

PL OK - great work! I hope you'll find something you like to read in the next volume, which will be launching in a week or two.

Michael,

Thank you. I will definitely look for it. It was my first go at doing an audiobook read (other than my demo) from start to finish. Was always told that audiobooks were very challenging, especially if you do your own editing. I can now verify that guidance. The piece was a real challenge, especially the plethora of difficult pronunciations. And editing is quite laborious. But all in all, I found it a rewarding experience. I learned a great deal, not only pertinent to improving my craft, but also in the history of the reformation. Talk to you soon.

Hi Michael
Thanks for response. I modified the audacity file to increase the db level by 4 which includes a clipping edit as well. I think it changed the quality of the sound a bit as it increased the volume. Also deleted 3 seconds at the end. In the future, I'll record at a higher volume and turn the mic away to deal with the popping. I'm wondering if Audacity has a function that shows the average volume level?

Anyway here's the link
