My spouse is treating me to a lovely dinner in just a few minutes - it'll be a while before I listen to this chapter.

Phil requested that stories where an author is not listed NOT have things like the publisher read (this is just below the Magic Window in the first post).

So --- please edit out
From "The Children's Hour," published by the Milton Bradley Co.

ADAPTED FROM THE RUSSIAN
and upload again. At that point it should be fine.

Yes, the chapter is now PL OK. I'll mark it as such in the Magic Window next. The new length is 3:19.

By the way, I notice when I look at your recordings in 'frequency analysis' mode there is very little sound above 7000 Hz. This isn't a problem, as that's well above the normal human speaking range but it makes me curious about what you are using as a microphone. What are you using to record?

That explains it then. I found the specifications at the Logitech website and they say the frequency range for the mic is 100 Hz to 6500 Hz - so it's set to capture the range of the human voice and nothing else. Cool.

Hi, I have uploaded the second version of my 'test' at
https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_zoesmama2.mp3

Please let me know if it's ok, I tried to open the checker but the link tells me it's unavailable. I've done all I can to try to reach a louder volume . I look forward to your feedback.

Here are my two:

I remember doing Why the Chimes Rang in the One Act Play Collection. This is a much abbreviated telling of the story.

Your second test is indeed louder at 84.4 decibels but just a tiny bit still low. I will try to put the link to Checker again perhaps the earlier one was not working or somoething. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKVOYsaDoRo&feature=youtu.be Do not despair! Please tell me what you have done to increase volume, perhaps I can suggest something else. Normally, using the slider bar in Audacity by the mic icon does the trick very well. Hang in there!
EDIT: It took me 3 tries but I think that is the right link for the Checker.
