Hi Jvisi. I've checked and marked your second test OK. You are good to go. :)

Here is my first recording - I hope it's alright.

I re-recorded the intro separately, as I got the wording slightly wrong in the original version. Here is the intro -

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/wishingstonestories_09_intro_burgess_128kb.mp3

And here is the story itself -

Thank you.
Just a couple of issue before I put this in the Magic Window.

First, you need to combine this into just one file. Simply edit the "story itself by pasting the introduction at the beginning. Adjust spacing as needed. Then, just five seconds of silence at the end.

Second, the volume on this is much, much too low, measuring only 81.8i dB.
Our target is 89 dB with an acceptable range of 86-92 dB.
You can use the Amplification feature in Audacity to boos this by about 6dB.

Submit the entire corrected file under the same file name, post the link here again with the new file length ss:mm

Then I'll put it in the Magic Window for PL.

Let me know if you have any questions or need help with any of this.

Hi there,
I would love to claim section 5 if it is still open. I am new to reading so you can list me as jvisi in the catalog.

Thanks! :D
Well, there is a previous claim for this section that came in a little before yours.
Would you care to choose another?

How did your test recording go?
Sure, I can do section 2 or 3 if they haven’t been claimed yet.

I believe the 1-min test went well. I posted, received feedback and then reposted my edits. I don’t think I received any comments after that, so I hope I am ok to start reading.

Thanks!
Jvisi
Great!
I've put you in for Chapter 3

Thank you.

Thanks for the revision into one file.
I've put this in the MW Ready for PL, but the volume is still far too low, now at 83.3 dB
So, you still need to amplify it by about +5 to 5.7 dB to get it close to the target of 89 dB.

I use two programs for checking volume.
The first is a little program called Checker https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker, written specifically for LibriVox. Just drag a file into the Checker window to check validation on all LV specs, including a readout of actual volume in decibels. Use the Amplification feature in Audacity to bring the volume closer to the LV target of 89 dB.

The second is an Audacity plugin called ReplayGain https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity. Running this feature will give a value of plus or minus dB from the LV target of 89 dB, and then the Amplification feature can be used to adjust the file before exporting.

You can wait until Jenn gives you a PL report, in case there are any other corrections that need to be made.

Just had a listen and I thoroughly enjoyed your reading!

I have a couple of notes, all easy fixes:

Volume- as Larry mentioned above the volume level does need to be raised to meet the target of 89db.

12:48 to 12:51- there is almost a 4 second pause here which seems to disrupt the flow of the story. Shortening it a little might be more pleasing.

19:03- stumble "This by this time Tommy..."; text reads "By this time Tommy..." should be super easy to edit out the additional word.

How exciting! I love Burgess!

I'd like to claim section 7, The Pleasures and Troubles of Bobby Coon. This will be my first LV recording (passed the 1 minute test, yay!), and I'd like to be listed in the catalogue as Anjanette Barr.

Thank you!!

Great!
Glad to have you make you LibriVox debut with this project. We have so many of Burgess" books already recorded, so I was happy to find this one.

I've added you to the LV catalog and assigned you Chapter 7. It is fairly long for a first recording, but I'm sure you'll do fine.
Just click on you name in the Magic Window to view your reader page. This is where you can track all of your LV projects, of which I hope there will be many.

WELCOME TO LIBRIVOX
