The Life and Death of Mr. Badman by John Bunyan (1628 - 1688) edited by John Brown .

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/the-life-and-death-of-mr-badman-by-john-bunyan/

Seventeenth-century Puritan theologian John Bunyan wrote The Life and Death of Mr. Badman as a companion piece to The Pilgrim’s Progress, the literary work for which Bunyan is best remembered. Although both works are Christian allegories that provide the reader with moral and spiritual instruction, The Pilgrim’s Progress accomplishes this goal primarily via the positive example of the protagonist, while The Life and Death of Mr. Badman does the opposite; Pilgrim is ultimately destined for heaven, while Mr. Badman is destined for hell.
The two works also differ in their format. Pilgrim’s story is presented as a dream sequence, while Mr. Badman’s story is instead told via a dialogue between two other characters: Mr. Wiseman, who relates Mr. Badman’s narrative and draws life lessons from it, and Mr. Attentive, who asks prompting questions and makes comments on the tale he hears. Throughout the story, Bunyan details a variety of Mr. Badman’s sins including lying, swearing, and Sabbath-breaking.
Despite its length, the original text was one continuous narrative without chapter breaks. This LibriVox production is presented as dialogue by two readers and divided into smaller parts for convenience.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Prospective MC:

This will actually be a duet with Salvationist who suggested the project and wrote the summary.
Could we be set up as co-BC?
We do have someone in mind for DPL

I'll gladly set you up with a Magic Window! You can both have access to it, but on the Project page in the catalogue, only one name can be visible as BC, which one should that be?

Thank you so much!
I'll let you know about the BC and DPL.

The MW has been populated. At least I think this is a reasonable way to set it up.

Our hope is for a smooth project for you, but it will take awhile to complete.

Thanks again. :9:

That's alright! Have fun with it! If I see no activity for some time, I may post, just to reassure me that you're still working on it :D

Reporting for duty!

I think I'm to serve as a kind of narrator for the opening.

I'm very glad to see this project on the launch pad! Thanks for agreeing to join Larry and me in this project, Kevin and Rapunzelina!

I have some suggestions, but I am flexible on them:

1. I think it makes most sense for Larry to get the BC credit. He did the real work in setting up this project. I'm mostly serving in an apprentice role, as I've never BC'd a project before apart from my one solo project and a one-act play that isn't finished yet.

2. Might it be possible to add the word "The" to the beginning of the title? The title page of the book as it appears on the Project Gutenberg page includes the initial "The", as does the title of the relevant Wikipedia article, so I think "The Life and Death of Mr. Badman" is the proper title for this project.

3. What do you think of our voice credits saying "Mr. Wiseman" and "Mr. Attentive" rather than just "Wiseman" and "Attentive"? The "Mr." is omitted throughout the text, but is included in the opening line of the text, which serves a similar purpose to a dramatis personae, so I lean towards including the "Mr." in the voice credits.

4. Do you think we can omit the editor's note? The editor's note is really meant to introduce the entire print book, which included both "The Life and Death of Mr. Badman" and "The Holy War". Because "The Holy War" isn't going to be included in this audiobook, I'm concerned that listeners will find the editor's note confusing. I'm really grateful for Kevin's willingness to read the introduction and I think that would make for a stronger start to the recording.

Again, we do not have to adopt my suggestions above. I just thought I'd get them out there to see what you all think. I'm excited to start recording for this project!

I'll go ahead and record the Editor's Note so that you all can have the option to include it or not.

Ah, thanks for your suggestions, David. They are good ones.

-- I will ask Rapunzelina to add "The" to the title. (I'll revise the reading instructions to reflect this)
-- Fine with the voice credits as well
-- Also fine to omit the editor's note.

I'll let you know when I hear back concerning my DPL proposal.

There are two discernible sections to the Editor's Note, one for Badman and the other for Holy War. It's your decision, of course, but the Editor's Note need not be read in full and, thus, would not confuse the listener.

Anyway, I've already recorded it! Hahaha!

I'm just missing adding the Welsh and Gaelic titles referred to in the Note.

This looks like a fabulous project, and a great team to make it happen! I think I'll need to add it to my "to-listen" list as soon as you're finished. Best of luck to you! :D

I have run up to the errata now. I assume I will not read it as the corrections to the text will be made by the reader. We can do that much, can't we, without violating any rule?
