Hi Paul -

In the Art of Enlarging Pearls I have run into an abbreviation that I cannot figure out and Google is not helping me....

How would you say the following abbreviation? Postl. Com. Dict., It is in the first para of the story. I think the 2nd two words would be Common Dictionary but the first one is not Postal - that does not make sense.

Any thoughts?

Hello,
I have uploaded section 25, The Hundred Ninety-eight Night as follows:

https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/thousandnightsandanight12_25_anonymous_128kb.mp3

Run time is 7:24

Also, would be pleased to read section 40, "Tale of Two Kings...." if not taken.

Thanks,
Brize

Thoughts, but no firm answers. Most of the citations in Rees' Cyclopaedia start with the author, so it's likely that Com. Dict. was penned by Postl. This didn't help me find a suitable entry in our University Library catalogue though - the best match I could find was the Compleat Dictionary of 1667, but Bullokar bears no resemblance to Postl. The actual entry in Rees doesn't add anything - the Nights is quoting it in full.

Given that it's a recitation anyway, I'm inclined to suggest leaving it simply as a citation to Rees' Cyclopardia, viz abridging "cited, from Postl. Com. Dict., in vol. xxvi. of Rees' Cyclopædia" to "cited in vol. xxvi. of Rees' Cyclopædia".

Cheers,
Paul

All good - that's PL OK. I sometimes get caught by how differently Americans and Brits pronounce some words!

I'd be pleased to listen to it. :)

Of course you can!

Sections 26,27,49,50 and 55 are all PL OK - sounds as if there were some tough names in 55!
