thank you, Valerie, they're in the Magic Window, queued for PL. I am a bit pressed for time right now, but will try to listen to them over the weekend.valeriemarino wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2020, 1:29 pmHere is Section 88 Lee's surrender (1865), by Morris Schaff

ok, sorry for the late reply, but couldn't get any PLing done over the weekend.valeriemarino wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2020, 1:29 pmHere is Section 88 Lee's surrender (1865), by Morris Schaff

Listened to your two sections now and they are beautifully narrated especially the coal-mining was very interesting. Thank you for those.
I have a few small edits to suggest still:
Section 88:
> at 0:24: "Lee's surrender" – you repeat the title twice, you can cut out the first one, just keep the full title with the date and author
> at 10:00: (p. 429) "in short, it meant" – you say "in no short", which sounds a bit odd
> at 14:05-14:07: the silence before the end disclaimer seems a bit long and could be cropped a bit
> please correct the file name: tappan has 2 p and there needs a dash _ between tappan and 128kb. The safest way to make sure the filename is correct is to copy/paste the example from the first post (I noted it in pink colour) and only change the section number
Section 104:
> at 0:26: "learning coal mining" – also here, repeat of title can be cut
> also here please correct the file name: tappan and dash
thanks

I found it difficult to get any consistent rhythm in this reading so it probably sounds a bit stilted

your reading is fine, but indeed the whole poem is a bit difficult to follow and yes, the rhythm and rhyme (or lack thereof) doesn't make matters easier.alanmapstone wrote: ↑October 28th, 2020, 3:34 amSection 17 - Abraham Davenport

During one of my spells working in the US I was based in Utica in New York state which was on the old Erie Canal. The canal was disused and semi-derelict by then, but it was once an important thoroughfare. I was surprised how narrow it was in places, barely the width of a canal boat.
If the barges were horse-drawn the journey to New York, over 400 miles, must have taken weeks.

That was very interesting - would make a good short story with all the excitement!
I might need a little more time for my final section, but I'll get it to you asap.

Two more from me! (I'm saving the best for last. )
I had to record section 22 twice. Somehow committed the classic blunder of closing the file before exporting or saving.

Also, Sonia, section 22 has an error in the MW. It should be 1799, not 1790.

indeed I was glued to the couch listening to whether the ship would be found in time or not. What a great endeavour and team-work with so many ships to help each other. Cool. Excellently narrated too. Totally PL ok.Availle wrote: ↑October 30th, 2020, 4:45 pmI have finished section 108, it's 18:37:

awww that is awful when it happens. It doesn't ask you to save before it closes down ?mightyfelix wrote: ↑October 31st, 2020, 2:10 pmI had to record section 22 twice. Somehow committed the classic blunder of closing the file before exporting or saving.
which is the correct number for the second section ? it's twice "22"
oops, ok, thank you, will change it.section 22 has an error in the MW. It should be 1799, not 1790.
