The Amethyst Cross by Fergus Hume (1859 - 1932).

Things look bleak for Lesbia Hales. Her father does not let her marry the man she loves. Her mother is dead. She has to keep secrets in order to promote what she wants for herself. One day, her lover, George Walker, is injured in her home and someone stole the expensive amethyst cross. Who could have done that and why? ( Stav Nisser.)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/56230
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Hello,

I would like to record for this book. Is there a way to approximate how long each section's recording would be? I would like to read for four hours; how many sections would you suggest I record to fulfill that time frame?

Thanks,
maggiew123

P.S. maggiew123 is what I would like to go under as my pseudonym for my recording.

Hi,
welcome to Librivox. I hope you will enjoy here. I suggest you start with 2 sections. I don't know how long they are, I cannot do wordcounts. However, with all the eddeting you would have to do, I want you to see:
1. hhat you don't take more than you desire.
2. That you like the book.
3. That you get the hang of things.
What do you think?
Stav.
P.S.
I did not see the window was up... Will fill it in tomorrow.

For Maggie’s info...

Now that the word counts are in, you can estimate finished recording time. FWIW 140 words per minute is a good baseline. 3,500 words is 25 minutes. It will take you anywhere from 2 times to 10 times the finished time to record and edit your section.

HTH

Thank you! I'll record sections 1 and 2. My pseudonym is maggiew123. Can I start recording now, or do I need confirmation from you that you have seen this message and assigned me my sections?

Hi!

I'd be interested in reading Chapter 4: A Family History.
