Hello, Dave

No, section 12 is still to be checked. But I assigned you sections 45 and 46!

Great job for a new reader! I have a couple of PL notes for chapter 4:

At :20, please say "book 2, chapter 4, Auks, Gulls and Plovers, The Auk Tribe by W. P. Pycraft"
11:35 jumpy
16:25 jumpy
17:13 jumpy
17:33 missing phrase: Indeed, many instances could be cited

Please remove 1 second from the end (we're only to have 5)

Some editing help:

Editing in Audacity:

It is preferable that you not re-record the entire file again, but merely do spot edits to make corrections. Listening to a whole file again is very time consuming for the checker and not really necessary.

Deleting something in Audacity is very easy: Just highlight the section and use Control + x

Adding something is likewise easy. You're basically doing a copy and paste:

Highlight the section where you want to add or replace. Use Control + n to open a new window.
Record the new text in the new window and then copy it (Control + c). Close the new window without saving.

Return to your original window and click at the top in a neutral spot. Use Control + v and your new text will appear in the spot you had highlighted previously.

What's wrong with that? too much? too little? wrong word? :?:
Once you open your file and read along with the text, I am sure it will become immediately obvious to you what needs to be corrected. The very specific time stamps will guide you.

Dave, I had a few notes on your chapter:

Volume was a bit out of range at 92.8. Volume needs to be somewhere between 86-92, although a mid range, about 90, would be ideal. You must check your volume and other settings for each recording by using the Volume Checker (link: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker) before submitting your file. Fixing the volume is easy -- let me know if you need some help with that.

I wanted to suggest that when you make your edits below, begin at the end so that the time stamps will not become distorted as you work your way in.

At the start, please say, "Section 45 of [full title], volume 2
:34 say "by W.F. Kirby"
At :34, an odd thing: You read the title of the next sub-chapter (this needs to be deleted through to :44)
4:59: in the first place -- delete the word "first"
11:53: the word "remarkable" is cut off
14:52: insert the title of the sub-chapter here: "Nerve-winged or Lace-winged insects, ....etc"
16:35: though should be "through"
18:28: should be: "belong also the termites"
20:06: I heard "app appears"
21:38: "in a spinal direction" should be "in a spiral direction"
21:41: "with its brown head" should be "with its broad head"
24:44: insert: "or camel flies"
25:26: "on the herbage on hedge banks" is cut off
26:16: "have very slender bones" should be "have very slender bodies"
26:45: I heard: "is the re extraordinary" delete re

These are quite a lot, and I almost returned the file to you for editing. I'm sure you would have caught most, if not all, of these with more careful editing. We are here to help, and if you need more help with editing, please let me know.

PL notes for section 46:

Volume is out of range at 84.9.
:04 please say "volume 2"
:31 delete "Reverend Wood" [he did an earlier part of the section on Insects]
1:15 "through" should be "though"
10:27 there is a repeat of "comminuted leaves"
17:41 stumble of "often"
18:53 "driven forth by the hive" should be from the hive

https://librivox.org/uploads/leni/livinganimals2_49_various_128kb.mp3

it is 25:50 :)
PL note for Section 49:

I am going to return this file to you as it became apparent to me after I had noted at least 20 corrections to be made, that this file has not been edited by you. Please take special note of your volume which, at 84.3, is out of range (see my notes to Dave above).

Also, there is a background noise which starts at around 3:17, which you might be able to reduce by using Noise Reduction (under Effects). It's not an ideal solution however, as it also reduces the sound quality overall. Best bet is to record in a very quiet place.

Thank you for your guidance! I apologize for the errors, this is my first large recording for librivox and I am happy to make any changes needed. I will begin working on a rerecording now.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
