The Rover by Joseph Conrad (1857 - 1924).

This project is complete! Please listen and download from the catalog: https://librivox.org/the-rover-by-joseph-conrad/
According to wikipedia: "The story takes place in the south of France, against the backdrop of the French Revolution, Napoleon's rise to power, and the French-English rivalry in the Mediterranean. Peyrol (a master-gunner in the French republican navy, pirate, and for nearly fifty years "rover of the outer seas") attempts to find refuge in an isolated farmhouse (Escampobar) on the Giens Peninsula near Hyères.

The story is about Peyrol's attempt at withdrawal from an action- and blood-filled life; his involvement with the pariahs of Escampobar; the struggle for his identity and allegiance, which is resolved in his last voyage.". I'll write a summary when I have listened to the book! ( kathrinee)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/59142
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    8. AFTER recording
      Need noise-cleaning?

      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader

      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Welcome to LibriVox! Thank you for volunteering! I set this up as a group project, and would like to keep it that way. If you decide that you love it, you can always make your own solo after recording a couple of chapters here.

I see that you have already found some other interesting things to read, as well. I'll assign you sections 1 and 2 to start, and when you have finished them you can claim more. Please make sure to do a 1 minute test before you start recording for real! https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test.

Welcome to this project! I have already given away sections 1 and 2, but it would be great if you record 3 and 4!

My computer is completely toast and I'm unsure of when I'll get another one. It is probably best if you reassign my parts ): I had just finished recording part 3 too

I'm sorry to hear that! I'll release your chapters back into the pool, but please remember that you can come back and claim again if you are able to, later on. Take care!

Thank you! I'll sign you up for section 3. Please make sure to do a 1 minute test before you start, just to make sure that the technical settings are correct. Here is information on how to do the test https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

Absolutely! I'll sign you up for section 4. Well done on doing a 1 minute test. Please make sure to work through any issues and get it OKed before you start recording this section.

You will also need to be added to the catalog of readers. I will add you using your forum name, but if you prefer your real name or a pseudonym let me know. We can also link to a personal blog or website.
