Hello - I would like to claim Psalm 34: Discourse the First (section 35). This is my first recording. Name can be JG.
Hi, JG, and welcome to LibriVox! I've assigned that section to you, but please, before you start on it, you should complete your 1-minute test. It's basically a sound/tech check to make sure that your recordings will be in the right format for us to use. Let me know if you have any questions or run into problems!

Sure, Gillian, thank you! You've got sections 30 and 31, which is all of Psalm 31. :)

Hi. Still working on Psalm 31. Two queries:

- I know you've said we can ignore the marginal references, but is it okay if I keep them in?

- There are page headings (probably to help readers flicking through) - do I just ignore these completely?

Thanks!

Another issue - Section 30 alone is coming in at around 67 minutes. I see there is another file in this project at 73 minutes. Does the <60 minute rule not apply to this project?

The limit appears to be 72 minutes and mine was sped up a tad in order to not go over. The final result is 71:33.

I ignored the paragraph numbers and page headings because I felt it flowed much better. I don't know if there's a rule or not though.

In general, I'd say it's probably better to ignore these things because they tend to break the flow, as dronald said. The page headings, in particular, I would think would be particularly tricky to slip in at a logical point, so it's better to ignore them entirely. If you want to use the marginal references, I don't see a problem with it (unless maybe it does stretch the section to more than 72 minutes; more on that in a moment). But if you use them, I think the best approach would be to treat them like footnotes: read to the end of the sentence, say "footnote," read the reference, say "end of footnote," then continue to the next sentence.

As for length, the limit is in fact 72 minutes, not 60. This is because 72 minutes is the amount of audio you can generally fit on a CD. Checker will flag you for recordings longer than 60 minutes or shorter than 5 minutes, but that's kind of an unofficial rule of thumb. We often have sections of poetry and children's works that are shorter than 5 minutes. Bear in mind that Checker is also intended to flag potential problems. Since almost all of our files will be between 5 and 60 minutes, Checker flags it as a potential problem, not as an absolute standard.
