I see you have the OK on this, so I'll save Section 14 for you.g3s0ff wrote: ↑May 30th, 2020, 9:35 am Hi, I'll take section 14.
I just posted my one minute test and waiting for feedback. https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_g3s0ff.mp3
Before I can actually assign this to you, I need to add you to the LibriVox catalog. So, just let me know how you would like to be listed -- real name, pseudonym or other nickname. This is how you will be credited for all of you LV work.

I've updated the Magic Window and marked this Ready for PL.
We don't have a DPL yet, so I'll try to listen to this soon.
Just click on your name in the MW to view your catalog page where you can track all of your LV work.

Chapter 14: https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/radioboyssecretservice_14_duffield_128kb.mp3 (8:55)
Just two technical things that need attention.
First, the volume is too high, measuring 93.3 dB Our target is 89 dB with an acceptable range of 86-92 dB.
You can easily adjust this using the Amplify feature under the Effect menu in Audacity. Just set it to about -4 and you should be close to the target volume
Second, each recording should have about 5 seconds of silence at the end, and this recording has only about two.
When you have made the changes, upload the corrected file under the same name, post the link here again with the new file length.
=====
Here are two programs that I use to adjust the volume of recordings:
1. CHECKER
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker>CHECKER.
This little program was written specifically for LibriVox, and is very easy to use.
Just drag your file to the Checker window, and it will quickly check it for all LibriVox specifications and give you a report.
One of the measurements is the volume in decibels. Use the Amplify feature under the Effect menu in Audacity to adjust the volume, by setting the value to plus or minus to bring the recording close to the LV target of 89 dB.
2. ReplayGain
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity
This article will introduce you to ReplayGain, which is a plugin specifically for Audacity. There is a link to download it and a link to a tutorial on how to use it. Once installed, it is easy to use. Depending on your version of Audacity, it will appear either in the Analyze menu or the Effects menu. ReplayGain can be selected to analyze the recording, giving a reading of how many decibels, plus or minus, that the recording is off from the target. It is then easy to use the Audacity Amplify feature to make the adjustment before exporting the file.

Unfortunately, there is a severe problem with it.
There is such a loud background roar from the beginning to about 1:47 that it all but drowns out your quiet voice. It seems to disappear until about 3:00 but comes back at a lower level for the remainder.
I tried to eliminate it using the Noise Reduction feature in Audacity. cut could not reduce it enough without degrading your voice to an unacceptable level. The remainder can probably be improved with moderate noise reduction, but I'm afraid you will need to record that first portion again. I think if you listen to this again, you will hear what I'm talking about.
Ir you need any help with this, just ask.

Thank you for your request.
This section, however, has been saved for another reader, but it may be released soon because they have not checked back in.
But, there are still some things you need to do first.
Please read through our Newbie Guide to Recording https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording
There is a lot of good material there that will help you get off to a good start.
Note especially the second section 2 on the Preliminary Test. We request that you first complete this and post it according to the instructions and get an "OK" evaluation before recording in an actual project. This is primarily to check out your technical specifications and identify any major problems ahead of time.
Once you have that "OK" post here again to request one of the open chapters.
Let me know if you have any questions.
