That's fine - I got it when I downloaded and listened to the file. ;) But yes, do stay in the habit of posting it.

Welcome, Anita! I've entered you in for section 5.

Before starting in on this I do recommend you do the 1-minute test to work any kinks out of your recording setup. :)

If you want, you can download section 3 to listen to how the other reader of the story has chosen to pronounce the names. This isn't required, though.

Have fun!

Apologies just re read thread re Section 5 - Part 3 of this story re pronouncing the names - I didn't listen to Ruth's section first - so very likely I've pronounced them differently to Ruth. Hope it's okay.

Thanks!
Yeah, that's no problem. It's one of the "risks" of a group project, but not something we're overly concerned about. ;)

I suddenly have a lot of sections to proof-listen; I'll get to this either later this evening or tomorrow.

Section 4:

The reading itself was good! You do have plosives. This is when your breath directly hits the microphone on letters like P, F, or TH. Move your microphone a little bit to the side of your mouth if a desktop mic, or a little above or below your mouth if a headset mic. This will help the air pass by the mic instead of directly hitting it.

0:27-0:34 - a bit of a long pause between the title and the story. Perhaps cut this down to 3 or 4 seconds?

4:32-4:36 - a bit too long a pause

4:44-4:50 long pause

6:03 - "or I will" stumble, repeated at 6:04

6:27-6:30 long pause

6:34-6:38 long pause

7:28 - rumble of breathing followed by long pause

8:07-8:12 long pause

10:15-10:20 long pause

13:54-13:59 long pause

17:23-17:27 long pause

17:43-17:47 long pause

(There were a couple other pauses that were on the long side, but more borderline. These were the ones where they felt quite long to me.)

You only read division 4. This section was also to read divisions 5 and 6 - to pdf page 80. You ended on page 69.

Hi Tricia

Thanks for the very prompt and detailed feedback - I had trouble with the volume being too low so I tried to fix it using Amplify but it still didn’t meet the brief. In the end I used the Effect - Compressor clearly missing that I amplified my breath in the process.

I’ll take on your recommendations and review my Mic position and re record a small part to make sure it’s suitable before recording the whole Section. Thanks 😀

Hello,
I would like to claim sections 10-12, Scally: The Story of a Perfect Gentlement (Parts 1-3). This is my first recording and I would like to appear under my forum name (ambsweet13) in the Librivox catalog. I also just submitted my 1-minute test.
A.M.B.

Between illnesses, work, and vacation, May wasn't my best Librivox month. But I'm back and ready to do some more recording, editing, and PLing!

Okay, great, thanks! Please wait until your test is OK'd before digging into this recording. :)

For the record, "Scally" is short for Excalibur, so that may help with pronunciation. (I suppose if you pre-read the story, you'll know that. But I'm one of the lazy ones who doesn't pre-read, and sometimes I get into trouble like this!)
