That sounds really interesting; I've been reading a bit about her on Wiki, what a long and varied life! And I like it that she was such a late bloomer; moved to France in her late thirties, married and had her son over 40, for the events of this book she must have been well over 60 and published it even later, then went on to do more public work during WW1 and lived to 90, into the 1920s. She's been quite a find; are there any plans to read any other of her works? There are several more on Gutenberg, I'd be up for it!ColleenMc wrote: ↑November 26th, 2020, 1:13 pm Thanks Lucy! She really did seem to have a very nice life....I came across a New York Times magazine interview with her (from a trip back to NYC after years of living in France) that I plan to record for a short nonfiction collection one of these days.

I have at least one more of her books on my gigantic list of bookmarks of possible projects....but it’s a very long list and will probably depend on a whim when I’m deciding to start a new project....if you are wanting to pursue any of her other books, go for it, I will look forward to hearing them!

I'm so sorry I missed this post last month! This means all the recordings are in and we can finish up prooflistening and then head to catalog....nearly there!zzy55 wrote: ↑October 11th, 2020, 5:50 pm Hello. Here is section 8. I did not use compression or normalization on this or the other 2 files - if you think I need to just let me know and I will apply to the file when I revise it if needed.

A fine reading! Just two issues to correct. There are repeats at 14:47 (two or three) and at 16:29.zzy55 wrote: ↑October 11th, 2020, 5:50 pm Hello. Here is section 8. Racing to the finish now! Her franglais is getting almost out of control in this one, it gets quite hard work switching between accents several times in a sentence! Still, I've got rather fond of her by now, she does seem to enjoy her life so much!
One note: We make a custom of closing footnotes with "End of footnote," but the transition here is quite clear.

My apologies for having you wait so long for me.alexfoster wrote: ↑October 28th, 2020, 9:50 amOK have amended the start and gone through and truncated some of the more egregious pausesKevinS wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 5:09 pm
You know already about the incorrect introduction and I'm sure you'll get the file name done properly. That's all that's of real concern.
I would like to recommend that you truncate the pauses a bit. I'm not a role model, but I rarely have pauses in prose pieces that are more than a second in length. 1.5 seconds works in many cases, and more than 2 seconds can sound terribly long. But you seem to know what you like. It's really up to your taste and, possible, the wishes of the BC.

Thanks Kevin - I saw the note about 'end of footnote' after I'd done it, and was expecting to have to re-do it, but thanks for letting me off!KevinS wrote: ↑November 29th, 2020, 1:59 pmYou did a wonderful job with the Franglais! PL OK!LucyK wrote: ↑November 26th, 2020, 6:28 am Section 14:

Colleen, I have made the edits to Section 8 on your advice. It is now ready for its Spot Check.
