Hi Nate. Welcome to LV. Before you record for a project please complete the preliminary test to ensure your settings are correct. It's much easier to make changes to a one minute recording that for a longer section. Once you get your OK please come back to make a claim.

The instructions for the preliminary test are found near the top of the initial post. Just follow the newbie link. :D

[The background clanging in the recording is the sound of my mouse on the desk. Lesson learned. Won't do that.]

In the beginning you also had some mic bumps. While recording please be as physically still as you can be.

Please be sure to read the initial post. It details, opening and closing statements, silences required and file naming.

Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

Here is your catalog page. https://librivox.org/reader/14407 The Project details link is a great way to keep track of your project claims.

Chapter 12 is up:
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/lasalle_12_parkman_128kb.mp3
I didn't see a duration, only a size. GW shows 24:03+

Note: I've had to clean up the sound, and am eager to hear of any more editing I need to do with that. My intro repeats the section a lot … I was uncomfortable omitting anything on the page without advice.

Eager to learn of any edits or corrections because I want to learn to do it right now rather than later.

So … what did you think?

I think you did a wonderful job!

The chapter 12 at 0:28 is not necessary (doesn't hurt anything to keep it there but not necessary). The intro is very repetitive but that's how it is on all LV projects.

I enjoy your pacing, the reading is clear. You've got this! PL OK. :D

If you are on Windows you can right click on the recording. There will then be a box with a tab for details. That will give you the length. I keep my recordings in a folder. At the top of the folder, right click on 'Name'. The next pop up has a ton of things you can add to the folder. You'll likely have to go to 'more' to find 'Length'.

If you don't use Windows then you can post a question in our help area. viewforum.php?f=23

Rita,
There was a little duplication in the second part of the intro but don't worry about it. It's tough adjusting back and forth from group intros to solo subsequent chapter intros.

Lovely reading. Thank you, again.

PL OK. :D

Great job! The reading itself is PL OK however there are some technical corrections to be made.

The volume is too low at 81.4dB. We aim for 89dB with an allowable range of 86-92dB. Please amplify by 8.
The ending silence needs to be extended to 5 seconds. The current 1 second runs the risk of the recording being cut off during playback.
The recording has a high level of background noise and needs to be noise cleaned.

Please remember to post your file length with you post your file.

Let me know if you have questions on the changes and if so, what software you are using.

"The recording has a high level of background noise and needs to be noise cleaned."

I think that I have the other stuff down, but I'm not sure how best to clean out background noise. I am using Audacity. Suggestions?

Sure thing. After you amplify.

First highlight some of your "silence", say around 9:15.
Effect>Noise Reduction>Get Noise Profile
Select your entire recording
Effect>Noise Reduction>Play around with the noise settings (using the "preview" button until you are satisfied). I used 10, 6.00, 6. Toggle to reduce noise>OK.

In case you are a visual learner here are some videos which may help. They aren't your version of Audacity but should still prove helpful.

29 is spot check PL OK.

Your volume is at 86.9dB. Make sure you don't let it drop any further. 86dB is as low as we allow.

I would like to tackle another section or more. I request Chapter 22 and any of the remaining 23, 24 or 25. (Is that a good idea, or should I wait to see if these are snapped up?)

It’s completely up to you. We request you don’t claim more sections than you can complete in a 2 month timeframe.

Let me know.
