Section 12: Well read, but there are some plosives throughout, the worst of which are noted below.

To prevent in the future, try moving your mic to the side of your mouth if a desktop mic, a little higher or lower if a headset mic.

No easy way to fix these; they'll probably need to be re-recorded.

2:10 - "could be anything more servile"
3:23 - "the downfall of the empire"
4:21 - "a difficulty that it could avoid"
6:50 - "The gods are just"
8:19 - "proof that he is incapable of doing it"
10:19 - "to be idle and useless is neither an honour"
11:16 - "The experiment has often"
13:13 - "the more useful work the man does"
14:24 - "Respect the burden, Madam."

I have been trying to re-record parts of this but each time I try I just get a flat line in Audacity. I've recorded many times and have never had this problem so I'm giving up. This has a few missed words but I am not able to re-record. So you can give it to someone else if you think its necessary. Otherwise I'm all done :) Hope you are well.

Did you make sure the microphone was selected in Audacity?

Thanks - I'll check it tomorrow. :)

Hi Tricia,

Thanks for the PL notes. I have done my best to fix it - though my mic set up currently isn't the best. I hope it's better. I'm still learning too!

Hello,

Welcome! I'll pencil you in for those. Be sure to do the 1-minute test (and get it OK'd) before starting in on these. :) It's to make sure your settings are all correct - a "tech check" of sorts.

How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname or forum name, some their real name) and a link to a personal web site or blog, if you have one. I recommend using whatever name you say (if any) when you say, "recorded by [your name]" as that's how listeners will look for you. (Keep in mind that prospective employers, classmates, enemies, etc. can also find you using the catalog name, so be cautious if privacy might be an issue.)

I'd like to appear under the name Dianna. No website or blog for me. Thanks!

just to verify, we read the quotes at the beginning of the chapter, right?

And are footnotes the little numbers found in the text that link to notes at the bottom and the words in brackets?

Example: Though politeness, in its best form, should [18as St. Francis de Sales says] resemble water—"best when clearest, most simple, and without taste,"

Quotes at the beginning, yes.

Long footnotes that are linked rather than in the text itself, no.

Short footnotes that are in the text, umm... your choice. If you think it's important enough to include, please do so. :) If they don't really add to the text understanding, leave 'em out.
