I realize that you have recorded before this thread though I am having a difficult time putting you in the mw to read those sections. I as the bc have the responsibility to put the chosen reader in the mw with their choice of sections though I am rather new at this. I will not give those particular sections to anyone else, promise you that. How about if we wait and possibly the mc of dpler will step in here. They know more than I so they should be able to help out here. Tomorrow more than likely so get a good night's rest.
I wonder if you were trying the same thing I tried once- entering reader name rather than forum name?
Well this person has recorded before so I was going off the name she said she would like to be listed as, hoping the one she stated was the one she has already used.

Yes, but whatever their reader name, the forum name is what will get you in. I just checked, and while the forum name is in as a reader, the catalog name has not yet been added. So you can go ahead and enter the claims as under ‘heathae’, then Sonia or the MC of the other project can set up the reader name which will be automatically reflected in both.

Thanks again for all your patience and advice. Do you recommend I re-record these or edit them further?
Hold off a little to change anything. We’ve gotten a few ready to mark PL OK, but my notes are slightly scattered at present. I’ll likely be posting sometime tomorrow to let you know what’s what. In the meantime, have a restful night! You’ve done a great job on perfecting these files, and I promise you all of these will soon be ready to call good to go.
Hi Rachel! Sorry, this has gone quite a bit longer than I expected! I've been very busy these last 2 weeks and now I have lots to catch up on!

Good news! Your files are all PL OK now! Thank you for your patience and hard work! Hopefully it'll go more easily for you in the future.

I'm here :) So Austin's reader page was already opened in the weekly poetry project, so you should have been able to find him in the drop-down menu. I just added his claims and it worked fine. Maybe you had a typo when you looked for him ? :hmm:

Here is Austin's personal reader page now: https://librivox.org/reader/13786 I made the Reader name change as well.

All is well now, he's officially registered to the claims.

Sections 1 & 3 both have clicking within the end silence. April, could you remove that? It should be an easy fix, and otherwise those are just great!

Here are my recordings:

Section 18: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_18_bangs_128kb.mp3 (0:34)
Section 19: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_19_bangs_128kb.mp3 (0:38)

Please let me know if any adjustments are needed. Thanks!
Hi Sarah, you have some great recordings here! The only thing I found that would be helpful is to run both of them through another round of noise cleaning. Checker found the background noise at 40.6 & 41.2, which I expect is mostly mouth noises as that's the only thing I hear.

Thank you! :)

PL OK  Thank you!

Just so you are aware, the volume on this file is at 91.9 dB, which is right at the top of our range. For this one it's OK, but you might want to keep an eye on that in future files and lower it a tad before uploading if they’re this high.

Also the DC Bias is at +3... This something not everyone worries about checking, and +3 is close enough to 0 to leave as is here. This is also an easy fix in Audacity and something you can see with checker. To fix this, select all of your recording, go to Effects>Normalize, and make sure only the box that mentions DC Offset is checked. Then hit apply.

Again, I'm giving these only for future reference. If you want to play with this file to see how it works, that's fine, but just don't upload it. Thank you for participating in this project!

Thank you for letting me know. I have run them through a second round of noise cleaning and re-uploaded them. I'm hopeful that they sound better now, but please let me know if not!

Hello Rose,
Here are the two files that had clicking noise at the end of each. Fixed now.

Hello,
Here is my recording of Section 25: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/cobwebsfromalibrarycorner_25_bangs_128kb.mp3
Time: 01:32
Kind regards,
Chad
PL notes:
Your reading is great! There is however a background echo effect, and your voice sounds a little distant. Would noise cleaning help this? Could you take a listen and see if there’s a way of getting that improved without distorting your audio quality?

My diagnosis might be wrong, so feel free to do whatever needs done on that. And holler if you need help! Thanks! :)
Chad, I was curious and had a listen to your file as well. What I think may be happening is that you are using "automatic noise cancellation" on your computer or microphone. Could that be case ? Can you check your settings please ?

Automatic noise cancellation will handily suppress all background noise, but it's not recommended, because as you can hear for yourself, it has a tendency to distort the audio a lot, to the point of sounding tinny. My advice is: it's better to have background noise, and then clean that with Audacity noise cleaning in the editing phase, than immediately have noise suppression, because that is too aggressive an intervention in the audio.

And if the background noise is too much to noise clean, than you need to consider finding the source of the noise. Maybe an electrical appliance too near the microphone ? A fan, a fridge, a radiator ? Closing the windows against traffic helps a lot. Basically choosing the quietest room in the house to record ;)

Please check your settings and let me know your finds. Did you encounter this problem with other recordings or is this happening only on this file ?

you're right, the ID tags get automatically generated in the end phase. In fact it's best not to have them filled out by the reader, so they will all be conform in the end.
