Historical Tales, Volume VIII: Russian by Charles Morris (1833 - 1922).

This project is complete. All audio files can be found on the catalog page.

https://librivox.org/historical-tales-volume-viii-russian-by-charles-morris/
These Russian tales span the time of Russia's founding in the 800s-900s all the way to the early twentieth century and are factually based, although particularly the older tales have become legendary. ( DrPGould)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from either of these texts!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/25625

    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello everyone.

I have dusted off an abandoned project for completion. In so doing I have asked knotyouraveragejo and craigdav1 to continue as MC and DPL. I do not yet know whether they will do so.

I have changed the text link to the gutenberg.org work. It the same work down to the pagination as the earlier link, but I find it easier to read. You may read from either one.

After the MW is created, I will be editing the first post for some additional clarity.

These tales contain much of the essence of Russian history and culture spanning a millennium. They are all familiar to most contemporary Russians (with the possible exception of the Russo-Japanese war section).

I look forward, with the help of an MC, DPL, and numerous enthusiastic readers, to adding this to the Librivox catalog.

Many thanks,

Philip

I've given you MW access in the meantime, so you can fix up things before Jo shows up. :)

Hi, Jo!

Thanks for remaining with the project! I hope we can attract some terrific readers. These are great tales. (I heard the older ones during the semester I taught in Russia back in the 1990s. The newer ones, not so much).

I think I have the MW in order.

I'm thinking about shortening the file name a bit and I'll probably find something else in the first post I missed.

Ever forward,

Philip

The original files were named historicaltales08_##_morris_128kb.mp3. I changed it in the first post to match. If you want to change it to something else then I will have to rename the existing files accordingly.

That's fine, Jo. I didn't think about the file names needing to match (first time I'd taken a project from the abandoned pile--but won't be the last).

I put text links in to the relevant sections--so I think we're in great shape.

Many thanks,

Philip

I've moved the files back into my folder so all the links in the MW should be working. :)
