The World's Best Poetry, Volume 4: The Higher Life (Part 2) by Various ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/the-worlds-best-poetry-volume-4-the-higher-life-part-2-by-various/
The fourth of ten volumes of poetry edited by Canadian poet laureate Bliss Carman (1861-1929). This collection, the second of two parts, includes many notable religious and devotional poems and hymns from across the centuries, covering subjects such as the human experience; death; immortality; and Heaven. It also includes notable excerpts from John Milton's Paradise Lost and Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy. ( Tomas Peter)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/higherlife01carm
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: special --- please ensure that all intros/outros are consistent with the templates below, and that all files have end silences that do not exceed 5 seconds.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I'm here Tomas, sorry for being so late in the game. I'll set up the MW in a few minutes. So do you want me to fill it in or will you have time on the weekend ?

As always, Anthony will probably be our DPL...will PM him to confirm.

all right, we have our MW. Tomas, according to my list there were 119 sections, you only asked for 115. But if some are missing, you can easily add them, you know that.

Leanne, we can already start haggling if you wish
Craig, unless you want to choose your own this time, I will select for you. Same goes for Jason and Tomas.

For part 1 we used the gutenberg text - surely that would be easier to read??

the problem with that text was there were errors, for example one poem was completely wrong, which luckily I found out by chance. :? So archive is the safer bet because there we have the scanned copies.

And the DRs will be scripted anyway, so a lot of them will be easy to read. :)

I actually prefer archive to Gutenberg. The only bonus in Gutenberg is the search function which is better.

I'm going to start filling in the MW now. I hope to have it done ASAP. The DRs will have to wait until a bit later, though.

I'll let you know if I have a wishlist. I may be open to anything for this one. I'll let you know tomorrow or so, when I have a chance to look over the poems. :)

OK guys, the MW is ready and so is the DR sign-up sheet: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KxA7IyXH2lGEA5BchVj6vb677ZuGts6r4mQbOIyUZ3A/edit?usp=sharing

I signed up for my 16 roles. I noticed that some characters reappear in different poems, so I thought it'd be fun to have a sense of continuity. I will play Christ in the poems he appears in. There is also Satan/the Devil, Dante, Virgil, and an Angel. I remember Craig did God's voice in previous projects, and I figured Sonia would sign him up for those roles again, so I saved her some work and did it myself. Let's have everyone choose at least one recurring character. Someone will have to take two, but that's fine.

Sonia, as for the solos, truthfully I'm not going to be picky this time around. As long as my voice is heard evenly throughout the project, I'm fine with whatever you give me. :) I think the only "request" I'd have is the poem by St. Casimir, as he is the patron saint of Lithuania, and I've visited his shrine in Vilnius. :P Going to bed soon, and I'm excited to see what I'll end up with come the morning! :D

Great, everything is ready. Tomas if you only want Casimir's poem, I think we can already save that one for you. I myself only want 4 poems badly in this one:
Small Beginnings by Charles Mackay
The Rise of Man by John White Chadwick
“Stone the woman, let the man go free”
The Dying Christian to His Soul by Alexander Pope
so I'm hoping Leanne lets me have those. :9:

As for the rest, I will wait for Leanne's list and then I'll choose my own and assign us all so that we are evenly distributed and have almost the same amount of lines. :)

So Leanne, we're all waiting for you ;)

Meanwhile I will probably check myself in for some DRs.

Moving us over to Readers Found, since I think everybody has this link anyway. You did send them the link in your PM, Tomas, didn't you ?

I like your idea for the coherence in the DRs...I think I will give in to temptation and play the Devil  Then I'll hold off from claiming the rest until Leanne had a look.
