April, I am so sorry, indeed I did not see your last post or I would have PLed it long ago already ! Thank you for bringing it back to my attention.Sonia,
You did see section 112, The Children's Crusade?
I posted it on 4/25/18 & though I realize that you have many sections to pl, I wanted to make sure you saw that post.
April6090
I did listen to the section now, very sad chapter in history especially the part where the children got sold into slavery. Everything wonderfully narrated. But unfortunately, you read a bit too much. Actually the poem by Longfellow, which follows the chapter, has been done by Tomas already. If you look at the MW, I treated chapter and poem as two separate sections. I'm so sorry, but this needs to be cut out again:
> from 4:58-5:58: the whole poem must be cut out, only leave the end disclaimer
BUT: since you have spent the time and recorded the poem anyway, do not throw it away ! Your work will not be lost. There is Rapunzelina's monthly poetry collection and it will totally fit in there. The only thing you need to do is add a different intro and outro to the poem text, and name the file differently and then you can post it here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=69793
You see the intro and outro under Point 4 above the MW. And how to name the file under point 5.
If you are quick you can still participate in the collection for April, but this one will close tomorrow. But if you are too late for this one, it's not lost, but will get carried over to the new collection for May. So at least your reading will find a new home.
Thanks
Sonia

awww, Ava, I agree, this story is so beautiful. And I especially love that it has a happy ending (I did not expect that, to be honest). Love conquers all, such a touching subject. And wonderfully narrated again. I could hear that the story really meant something to you.Availle wrote: ↑April 29th, 2018, 5:34 amSection 5, with 28:52:

Such a lovely story. I read it when I was a child, still moves me...
Almost flawless, only found a small part missing:
> at 14:10: (p. 17) missing part of sentence: “she could not wear a finer robe than he”
thank you so much !

no need to apologize, you were still fully inside your two-month-deadline Thank you for this great reading, Chris. I love listening to the deep tone of your voice, it's very agreeable to my ears. Also, your narrative is very fluent without being too fast to follow along. Very good reading. Now I wished you had claimed a longer section (but there are more books to follow in this series, in case you are interested )ChrisFields wrote: ↑April 29th, 2018, 12:22 pm Here is section 65, the length is 1:36 https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume02_065_tappan_128kb.mp3
sorry it took me so long, let me know what you think.
There are only two small parts which need correcting:
> at 0:08: could you please record the full title as pointed out in the Magic Window: “Persia Part II: Days of decline: historical note”
> at 1:14: (p. 365): “marked by revolting tales of perfidy and cruelty” – slight stumble, I think I hear “perfidity” if I’m not mistaken
The rest was perfect, so please, no need to re-record it all. Only record those two parts of sentences that I pointed out in another Audacity window, noise-clean and amplify so the sound and volume is similar to the original, and then patch them into your masterfile. Then I only need to spot PL.
Thank you, Chris, well done ! Hope to hear more from you.

well now I know all about Xerxes' crossing of the Hellespont. Excellent reading, Philip. And I so enjoyed hearing all these difficult and strange Greek and Persian names pronounced so flawlessly and withouth stumbles. As if you were using them in your everyday life. Are you a specialist in that historical period by any chance ? It sounds like you are very at ease with these names.
This section is totally PL ok and very informative. Thanks ! I think that was your last section here, but I hope I will hear you again in the next book as well.

Thanks so much Sonia. For years I have taught "the basics" of World history history which includes, of course, the Ancient history covered in this project but there were names in this project I hadn't heard before. I'm sure my pronunciation of several names is off, but anything that I thought was questionable, I've tried to look for an acceptable pronunciation (the web is, of course a great help.)Kitty wrote: ↑May 1st, 2018, 3:36 amwell now I know all about Xerxes' crossing of the Hellespont. While I enjoy the history of the Greeks and the Romans, I had three areas of specialization when I was in graduate school the first and the one nearest to my heart was Imperial Russia ca 1613-1923--from the crowning of Tsar Mikhail to the founding of the USSR. My other two specialties were Tudor/Stewart England and Early Modern France ca 1600-1820. All three of these periods relate to a deeper interest of mine--how do governments come into being, how do they maintain power, how do they lose power. The periods are those, as I'm sure you know, of the Russian, French and English Revolutions.
Looks like I'm finished here, for now. But I'll be waiting for the next installment. It is always a pleasure to work with you.
Many thanks,
Philip

well I'm also not a specialist, but they sounded all great to me. The only name I would have pronounced differently is Abydos. It always startled me that I didn't hear you pronounce the 'y', it sounded more like "Abdos" to me. But I figured you had some special insight into that Anyway, nowadays we cannot be sure how all these names were pronounced back then, so our best guess must be enough.
we'll be getting there in the book series at one point (not too sure about the Russian Revolution though, the books might be too early to cover that)The periods are those, as I'm sure you know, of the Russian, French and English Revolutions.

I went back and checked the pronunciation (The only variation in the way I've ever heard it is in the last syllable--whether the "o" sound is long like in the first syllable of doughnut or reduced so that it is pronounced "dahs" like the computer operating system MS-DOS).
Checking my pronunciation sources, I find NONE on the web with the pronunciation I used. So I will correct it--even though you didn't ask me to. (It only occurs 9 times in the reading. I did find variants on stress in the second syllable--a BY dos vs ab-i -dos ("i" as in "hill"). Since the pronunciation I used reduced the i almost to nothing, I'll probably go with the second variant.
Its been a long time since my pronunciation has been out of the main stream. (My Egyptian students didn't even correct me.) I have an appointment with my Dr, a native of Alexandria in a couple of weeks...he'll enjoy this.....
Ever learning, ever forward.......

NO ! seriously, that's not why I mentioned it !!!! You don't have to edit because of that !
Well it's as you wish of course, but isn't it a bit too much hassle ? The reading was totally fine as it is.
