Hi Gloria -

The following are what Google Translate indicates are the correct pronunciation in English and differ from your pronunciation -

5:28 - Canapé - Say Canada, now say the beginning - "Cana" and add "PAY". I heard Can APE.

6:48 - Chutney - Say CHUT (like Shut but with a CH sound) then "ney" like a horse sound. I heard CHOOTney

11:05 - Paté - Say Pa TAE. I heard plate without the "L"

11:13 - Pâté de foie gras - Say Pa TAE de foie gras (the rest you pronounced just perfect!). Same comment about Pate sounding like Plate without the L.

12:36 - Rechauffé - Say RE ch AW fay. I heard Re chAUf

So down from 9 to just 5 now to be changed!

I hope this is more helpful to you :)

I agree with both of you and I wonder what the final answer would have been had I asked the question prior to recording? (for future reference). I don't feel I can recapture the same voice tone with one word changes so for the sake of the recording consistency I will leave it as is since it is technically correct even though it is not the common pronunciations we have all heard. Are you okay with that Lynda? Gloria :)
Notes on pronunciation style and accent are generally frowned upon at librivox and are only provided when the reader asks, or in specific circumstances, like sometimes in poetry or when parts of a recording are not understandable. So my answer would have been that it is cool if you look up the pronunciation of words you don't know, but that it isnt mandatory :)

Hello all,

Section 29 has been uploaded for PL.

https://librivox.org/uploads/carolin/completeetiquette_29_harland_128kb.mp3

Time: 24:09

In this section, Marion Harland has, among many things, voiced her opinion on the perils of pronunciation.

The lady herself...

Hi Tracy -

Here is the feedback on Section 29 -

First, VERY good reading you did! I really enjoyed listening to it!

There were two things that I found which are as follows:

2:47 – missing paragraph on MR. NEWLYRICH
8:40 – heard affection – should be affectation (affect – TAE – tion)

Also the silence at the beginning of your recording is a bit short - if you can make the silence between .5 and 1 second that would be awesome! That is the amount of silence we generally have at the start of recordings. Your 5 seconds at the end of the recording was just perfect!

So if you can make those 3 changes and upload the recording again I will check out your changes!
