I spent longer than I expected on chapter 4, so I'll listen to these later. Sorry about the delay.

Atalie -

Section 7 - "Abi Fressah's Feast"
You named the file jewishfairytalesandlegends_7_128kb.mp3 but it should have been jewishfairytalesandlegends_07_landa_128kb.mp3
I'm assuming Phil can fairly easily rename the file when it's time to release the book, so I'll call this section PL OK.

Section 13 - "The Story of Bostanai"
Again, "_landa" is missing from the file's name. There are two other things that need fixing:

1) The overall audio level is outside the LibriVox range. Please use the Audacity (assuming that's what you use to record) Amplify effect to add 3.5 dB to the chapter. Than you'll be right in the center of the acceptable range.

2) At 6:10, I heard "Full well - Full well they knew..." That first "Full well" should be easy to edit out.

Export your mp3 as jewishfairytalesandlegends_13_landa_128kb.mp3 and upload it again. Then everything should be fine.

Just a note to say that I can indeed fix file names easily at validation. Not that we shouldn't use approved forms but in some cases they are not a big problem and do not need fixing and reuploading.

I'm sorry, I think I told you to add too much amplification -
your first upload was too quiet (at 85.4 dB as measured with the "checker" program)
the second upload is too loud (at 92.6 dB as measured with checker)

Librivox calls for audio levels of 86 - 92 dB, so you can see you were just slightly outside the limit both times. If you can set the overall volume right between these two and upload once more everything should be golden. One more upload please? But please don't do it by taking your most recent upload and lowering the volume; there are places where the sound got so loud it was clipped.

The spot where you edited out the extra 'Full well' sounds good.

Ok, sorry about that. So am I understanding correctly that I need to re-record this whole section, or is there another way to fix this problem? I still have the original project file in Audacity. Can I fix the volume there? Thanks for your patience, I am still kinda a beginner to LV recording!

Since I'm home today, I am going to jump in here to say that you do not need to rerecord the whole section, just use your aup file or the mp3 file and reduce the volume a bit then upload that with the same file name so it will replace the earlier file. You probably know all this but here is a little video on beginner Audacity things you can do. I think amplification is included in it somewhre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9NuSuWYaWg&feature=youtu.be
Please continue to ask if anything is confusing. (Phil, your friendly MC)

Echoing what Phil says - you don’t need to re-record the chapter. If you have the original project file you have what you need. You are aiming for a volume midway between your first and second uploads.

In case you don’t know, it’s perfectly fine to use the same file name again for the upload - the LibriVox site keeps things organized for the book coordinators.

Here are Chapter 21 and 22:
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/jewishfairytalesandlegends_21_landa_128kb.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/jewishfairytalesandlegends_22_landa_128kb.mp3

The reason why the volume is a bit lower than 89db is that I tried to reduce the noise by unplugging the power as I was adviced.
I hope it works fine. :|

Farnood,

There is a problem with the recordings: "The Rabi's Bogey-Man" is chapter 22 and "The Fairy Frog" is chapter 23. You called them chapters 21 and 22, both in the file names and in the spoken introduction and ending of the sections. You should be able to fix this fairly easily, though you will need to record the intro and ending again with the correct chapter numbers. You can then edit off the wrong introduction and ending of each of these chapters and edit the corrected ones on. Be sure to leave a full 5 seconds after your last word when reading the "End of chapter [number]" - on "The Fairy Frog" you had only about 3.5 seconds.

Recording with your computer running on battery made a wonderful difference. I went back and listened to a bit of your recording of "The Higgledy-Piggledy Palace" to refresh my memory - that had some low frequency (50 Hz) hum. In the two new recordings that hum is gone - so nice! As you mention, the overall volume for each was a bit lower, but both are in the Librivox acceptable range - "The Rabi's Bogey-Man" came in at 88.6 dB and "The Fairy Frog" was 87.3 dB. (The range is at least 86 but no more than 92.)

Your readings bodies of those two stories themselves were just fine, so if you can edit proper section numbers on there they'll be golden.

They are satisfactory.
Section 23 - "The Rabbi's Bogey-Man" - PL OK
Section 24 - "The Fairy Frog" - PL OK

You have a somewhat rough edit at around 6:32 in "The Rabbi's Bogey-Man" but it's clear what you are saying, so it isn't a problem.

I found the first story intriguing. From the description, Landa's Bogey-Man seemed to be a golem, but all the golems I've ever read about were made of clay, not wood and glue and springs. I did some on line serching and - what do you know - I found a reference to the "Golem of Prague", with many similarities to the Bogey-Man in Landa's story.

I knew I'd learn something if I volunteered to PL this book!
