Please let me know what you think.
You've got it. Checker reports the section volume at 90.6 dB ( f.y.i. the LibriVox standard says recordings should be at least 86 and no more than 92 dB). You can get used to how your Audacity volume meters look on this recording and make your future recordings match that.

Section 13 - "The Story of Bostanai" - PL OK

Note to Phil: the file name has 128.mp3 and not 128kb.mp3 - I'll add a note to fix that in the Magic Window.

No problem. I think you still need to do your 1 minute test to check your recording specs. That comes first of course. If youo need any help or have questions or have done this and gotten the OK, let me know. You certainly may still record that section. We have very flexible time frames here. :D

Great, we love confidence. There are a few things you should do and then upload the file again:
1: it is in stereo, we need it in mono
2: it is 329 Kbs, we need it at 128kbs

everything else if fine, so please make those changes, export the file and upload it again with the name chapter-One try 2 or something like that. Thanks!

You are getting there! It is now in mono which fixes that, but the bit rate is now 192 kbs and the volume has dropped a lot to 67 db. We need it in the range of 89 db so whatever happened between your first test and this one caused a big drop in volume. Let's try again, eh? Don't get discouraged. Our tech specs are quite different from ACX so once you get them set, please keep 'em seperate from those you do for Audible. (I've done a few for them too and know how easy it is to get the different set ups confused!) .

So, please do another test, set the bit rate to 128 kbs and raise the volume to around 89 db. I have a number of videos on how to do this linked in my sig which may help if you are using Audacity. :D And name this next one test 3 or something like that so we can keep them seperate. Be patient, this will all straighten out very soon and you will be recording lots and lots.

Thanks cowguy. The volume is up again and that is great but your bit rate is still at 192 kbs. Here is a little video showing how I change the bit rate using Audacity. If you are using another program I can't help you much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l54FyB3wLpA. Hang in there. :D

Great Luke! this works. everything is OK. The volume is a tiny bit low but that is OK and you have the official clearance to record lots and lots for LibriVox.
On an unofficial note, I found bits of your test to be hard to understand because you seem to be speaking fast. I would suggest slowing down a bit. Of course I am from the US south and like things slow so that may be my personal preference. In any case, jump in and record. I suggest someting short to start even though you are a seasoned audio recorder. Ask if anything is unclear!!
