Hi snarkychaser,

Here are your notes:

Needs to be 128 kbps, CBR. When exporting an MP3, makes sure 'Constant' is selected for 'Bit Rate Mode', and set the Quality to 128 kbps.

Volume is too low. You're at 82.0 dB, and you should be aiming for 89 dB. Just amplifying isn't going to work, as that would cause clipping. I recommend using Leveller first (depending on your version of Audacity, it's either directly in Effects, or under Distortion in Effects).

The file name should be hyp012_07_various_128kb.mp3. And you should post the length of your recording when you post it in the forum, just to make it easier to add to the Magic Window.

0:19: You need to include "Harper's Young People, Volume 1, Issue 12, January 20, 1880." here
10:04: 'eat' should be 'Little Caddy must eat'
10:28: 'They had asked her all sorts of droll stories' should be 'They told her all sorts of droll stories'
10:35 (not required): 'opening her silver tunic' should be 'opening her little silver tunic'
11:55: You need 5 seconds of silence at the end, and you've got about 1 second

Got the notes. I am new at this and using audacity was not sure how to get the volume up. I will try this.

I was not sure about placement of intro (I followed script) and I can't tell if leveler worked. Also I don't know how to fix difference in sound from new edits. Thanks.

On top of that, I have some notes:

0:00: There should be 'no more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording'. You've got about 1.8 seconds.
0:22: Between 'Recording by...' and 'Begun in No. 11...', you need "Harper's Young People, Volume 1, Issue 12, January 20, 1880." again. (and you might want to put 'Begun in No. 11' after the title)
6:30: Cough to be removed between 'he' and 'said'
10:36: Ending silence should be 5 seconds, and yours is about 7.2 seconds.

Thanks for your re-submission, Amanda! I will mark it in the Magic Window so Jordan can re-proof it. I know you're just getting your recording setup figured out but just a note for the future: it is usually best to try to fix the file you have already submitted instead of rerecording. When you make edits, the proof listener can just listen to those spots/sections of the file to make sure they have been fixed. When you rerecord and submit a new file, it means that the proof listener has to listen to the whole file again. I understand that this might have been a case where you needed to rerecord to get the file into the MP3 format. We also ask new readers to do a 1-minute test for the same reason, it allows you to submit a short and easy-to-listen-to recording and get assistance with your setup before submitting a longer file like this one. It just saves everyone time and since we're all volunteers here, we try to be sensitive to that.

I did run your new file through the Checker program (you can use this free program, too -- https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker) which tells us the volume, file type, and other technical information. It looks like your file is in stereo and will need to be converted to mono. Are you using the Audacity program for editing? It's super easy to convert to mono in Audacity, just click on the Tracks menu and choose Stereo Track to Mono.

Jordan will proof listen to the file sometime soon so you can wait to make the change to mono until you're making any other edits he may have for you. It's easier to do them all at once.

The first recording can be a challenge to get to a PL OK status but luckily there are lots of friendly and knowledgeable LibriVoxers around here to help you along the way. Feel free to ask for any other help you might need!
