OK, I found the Amplify menu and see that its slider allows dB increases up to 50. Based upon Helen's request I trust that I should increase it by about 6.0 dB. Does that sound correct?

I’d say 7 would be better, but 6 is fine. Sometimes you find you can’t do the necessary amplification because of peaks in your reading (for example, you got louder at an exciting part, or even just the odd word... try saying “bang” quietly!). If that happens, the compressor or leveler flattens the peaks and troughs a bit and allows for more overall amplification.
Don’t worry... there’s a lot to learn, and most of it is trial and error.

Here is the latest and, Great Recording God permitting, the greatest effort. https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/autobiography_17_franklin_128kb.mp3 Duration of 21:16. Let me know if it makes the grade.

And herewith is Chapter 09 with the dB increased by -7.0. https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/autobiography_09_franklin_128kb.mp3. Duration 33:17. Could this possibly, hopefully, gleefully mean the completion of the book? :?

Rats!
Here is yet another attempt. I used a different attempt at adding amplification to an Audacity file. Let me know if it makes the grade and I will apply the secret sauce to Section 09. https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/autobiography_17_franklin_128kb._.mp3. 21:16"

First of all I must admit that I inadvertently left the Secret Sauce out and uncovered all these days. None the less, it was the last batch so I applied some to Chapter 9: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/autobiography_09_franklin_128kb.mp3. It took all of it, a fuil 33:17" worth. Hope it worked!
