Hi Michael,
Welcome to LV! Great job!

PL Notes for section 3
15:35 finger snap, that it's head reached the roof

The volume of this section is too low at 81.3dB. Please amplify with an aim of 89dB. An acceptable range is 86-92dB. Due to high and low sections within your recording you won't be able to do a straight amplification. Compression will likely be a good option for you; it lowers the high points without impact the low. Once compression is done then you will be able to amplify. In case you don't know how, here is a video for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fKYYj6HMZU

Once the volume is high enough you will need to noise clean. Here's another video on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzVxubRO4gI

A full list of our videos may be found here. I'm a visual learner and find them a tremendous resource. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Instructional_Videos

Please ask if you have any questions.

I do believe that I have mangled, butchered, and illiterately mispronounced a few of the ancient Greek names.

17:46 in duration

I will be more than happy to get it right and re record what is necessary.

Well, it may be that you just got lucky with your PLer, who is horrible with names, or most likely you didn't butcher the names at all. Either way, other than one city, it sounds great to me.

PL notes for Chapter 6
There is a sharp snap at the very start of the recording.

15:26 p165 - It was in the year 672 that the Arab conquerors, under the Caliph Moawia, sold the fallen statue to a Jew of Homs as old metal.
Read as: Jew of Horns

16:46 p166 - Perhaps among its two thousand Jews are descendants of the Jew of Homs, who bought the metal of the famous status and sold it to be converted into instruments of war.
Read as: Jew of Horns

Homs is a city in western Syria: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homs

That snap always happens after noise cancelling. I'm going to have to find out why.

Homs (/hɔːms/) hawms...so close.

All items fixed.

Hi there,

I just wanted to touch base with you to let you know that I have laid down a recording for Chapter 7.

I'm just listening through the audio and may need to pick up a few lines (if I've missed them). I haven't forgotten or slacked off, but I will get it to you as soon as I can :)

Thanks for your patience,

That was a pleasure to read, very interesting. Is this book part of a series?

Thank you Thomas - Magic Window updated!

I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter, this book seems to be a stand-alone though. I can find one other book by the same author that deals with ancient history:

The Lost City of Adab
A Story of Adventure, of Exploration, and of Excavation among the Ruins of the Oldest of the Buried Cities of Babylonia
https://archive.org/details/cu31924028551913
From the Preface wrote:THE following story of exploration and of excavation is intended to describe in a popular way the remarkable discoveries made by the author in the Babylonian ruin mound of Bismya. With the exception of Tello, where the French have excavated for many years, no other Babylonian ruin has yielded so many and such beautiful objects of ancient art. A perfect marble statue and the fragments of other statues ; hundreds of fragments of stone vases engraved, inlaid, and inscribed; gold, copper, and ivory objects;
several thousand tablets of clay ; the graves, the weapons of war, the temple, the palaces, the private homes, the household utensils, even the games and the toys of the children, unite in forming a distinct picture of the life and civilisation of the people of Babylonia of five thousand or more years ago. A lost city was found; names of forgotten kings and rulers were restored to history ; questions, long puzzling to the archaeologist, have been answered, and others have been presented for him to solve. The story of the recovery of this oldest of civilisations should appeal not to the scholar alone, but to the reader who is interested in days and things long passed, and specially for him has it been written.
500 pages in 30 chapters, with lots of photographs...
Cheers, Ava.
