Little Busybodies: The Life of Crickets, Ants, Bees, and Other Little Busybodies by Jeanette Agustus Marks (1875 - 1964) and others.

This project is complete and in our catalog at https://librivox.org/little-busybodies-the-life-of-crickets-ants-bees-and-others-by-jeannette-augustus-marks/
These short stories about crickets, ants, bees, beetles and other little busybodies were written by the two authors to show their children the wonderland of insects right in front of them, if we just take the time to look closely. "We hope that you will realize that more wonderful than the most wonderful fairy story ever told is the marvel of the created life of these little insects; we want you to come to know something of their joys and troubles; we want you to learn how to be kind to them, and how they may be useful to you; and we want you to find out for yourselves the places they take in the great plan of creation." The authors speak to their own children in each story and through them to children of all ages to come. A fun book where newer recorders will feel comfortable choosing a chapter or two to find out about these little 'busybodies'. The subject is interesting, the words are generally easy so jump right in! Don't let the crickets have all the fun. ( The authors and phil chenevert)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/21948
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Yes you may do both. And it is so nice of you to ask. I will PL that section.
NOTE: I am back in my house but can't record for awhile yet, that room is still a mess. tsk, tsk,

EDIT: Linny, please let me know if the intro wording is confusing or does not make sense.

I believe the intro will work well for the remainder of the chapters. I replaced "chapter" with "introduction" for this section but I'll gladly change it back if you would like.

Are you sure about the file name?

I lost my voice for 4 months. I'm in speech therapy to get it back. They are helping me change my pitch as my natural pitch is no longer sustainable. Please let me know if you hear any cracks as I would rather replace those spots (usually near the end of a breath). I think I got them all but sometimes it's difficult to hear myself.

I'm so glad you are home. You're safe, the family is safe, the office will come in time. :9:

That's what I forgot! The file name! I knew there was someothing that needed to be changed. When I PL I will upload with the new file name, OK? Thanks

Lost your voice??? For 4 months? that sounds very serious especially if your natural pitch is not sustainable any more. I know it's none of my business but what happened? I would be devistated if my voice went away. But I will listen for cracks. This is very sad. :(

Unfortunately, they still don't know why. They think it may have been a virus but after all the medication they can think of there is still some functionality I don't have and that has led to essentially learning how to speak again. There is one more specialist to be consulted but that isn't until early next year. Fortunately, the voice I tend to gravitate to for children's stories is more agreeable to the limitation. I just need to learn how to talk in a normal tone at that pitch or I'm going to make myself crazy. In the mean time, I'm getting lots of PLing done.

Some days are more challenging, voice wise than others, but slowly I'm getting there. Thank you for your kind words. :9:

Hi Sash and welcome to LibriVox. We do have lots of great stuff to read, eh? Those 3 sections are all yours to enjoy. Please ask if anything is unsure or confusing. Image

Hi Alpreup and welcome to LibriVox.!! I have assigned those four chapters to you but before you record them, please submit another test either here or in the listeners wanted forum making the changes I've noted for you. Great voice by the way and I look forward to you reading a lot. Ask if anything is unclear, we are a friendly bunch here. Image

Oh, and what would you like your catalog name to be? It can the same as your forum name or your real name or anything.
