Section 11 is PL OK. Nice job, Tina!

Problems seem about the same now as then, except no talk of border security, transgender or immigration issues, and I had to gasp at this:

"Enrollments are going to double in our colleges in the short space of 10 years. The annual cost per student is skyrocketing to astronomical levels--now averaging $1,650 a year."

Section 12 is PL OK, and word perfect.
Always nice to hear your voice, Betty, and so interesting peering into the world view of 1963 -- not one word said about "racism, civil unrest or urban crime", but lots said about "communism", "employment", "taxes", and of course, the "economy".

Section 10 is PL OK. Thanks, Chris, for that dynamic reading of President Kennedy's first year in office. I felt sorry for the man to have so many burdens to shoulder, coupling lofty ambitions for human freedom, prosperity and world peace with the need to clamp down, marshall forces, and grow the bureaucracy, to get anything done.

I believe that is what we call "a conundrum"!

Whew! I was afraid that I had committed so many errors that you had developed carpal tunnel syndrome and therefore couldn't finish the PL Notes.

I was surprised that Eisenhower mentioned the national interstate highway system project only once in this address. I hope there'll be more in section 08. That topic is why I asked for these two sections.

Can you imagine the pork-barrel-give-backs that he had to give to the states to make them willing to give up some of their "states rights" for the sake of national transportation!?!?

I remember reading, in early high school years, that he sold his plan on the basis that the interstate highways would allow for better movement of men and materials between the coasts in time of war. The Commies were looming large on the nation's radar. And, WWII was still in the memories of a lot a living Americans at the time.

I'll record Section 08 later this afternoon and submit it tomorrow morning.
