There's no need to re-record; your story is PL OK just as it is.

I did hear some room echo in your recording. There is not enough to make your voice hard to understand (the most important thing!) but the echo is there and it would be nice to reduce that in future recordings.

National Public Radio made a little video showing how to use pillows behind the microphone to reduce echo. It's at
https://www.npr.org/2020/01/10/794201416/how-a-pillow-fort-can-make-your-podcast-sound-better.

Some people temporarily hang a heavy blanket or quilt behind themselves while recording. That requires some structure, as heavy blankets are -well- heavy, and anything lightweight supporting one is likely to topple over. It just another thing one can do to reduce the amount of sound rattling around in the room.

Another thing you can do is place the microphone a bit closer to you as you record: the mic picks up more of your voice, you need to turn the record level control down a bit to keep your volume in the proper range, and reducing the record level reduces the echo. Magic! The danger of doing this is if you get it too close your breath will start hitting the mic and cause ugly popping sounds. Your recording has none of that now and you want to keep it that way. Experiment cautiously.

And last, the LibriVox spec says the silence before you speak that the beginning of a recording should be no longer than 1 second. You were right at the limit in this chapter. Many folks here aim for a half second silence at the beginning. You could do that in future chapters. There will be future chapters, right?

Thank you. There was no need to rerecord this because our Dedicated proof listener said it was OK. They were just giving suggestions for future recordings that's all. So, did you indeed re record this? Is it a different track from the one you sent in earlier? If so, they will have to listen to it again.

Chapter 2 - The Tree of Swords - PL OK.

Chapter 22 - The Three Runaways -
At ~ 10:58 I hear
"You can bet," said Mr. Tom Cat.
The text reads
"You win the bet," said Mr. Tom Cat.
The rest is all OK.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll try your ideas on fixing the acoustics in the room before making anymore recordings. I am recording in a room with bare tile floor and empty walls so that's why it sounds like that. I'll try the pillow-behind-the-mic trick as well. Cantilla was a fun story and I would love to do more recordings of short stories, so I'll be back!!

Wow, that was fast! Thank you for the speedy PLing. The reason you hear "you can bet" is because that is what I said, I remember because I remember at the time thinking it was a strange line, very weird mistake on my part. I'll rerecord the line as soon as I can, which might take a few days

I agree, bare tile and bare walls can make for a difficult space to record in. My 'studio' doesn't have that much deliberate acoustic treatment, but the room is an irregular shape and there is a fair amount of clutter, both of which serve to break up echos. Plus I have an old quilt hanging on the wall behind my computer setup that sort of acts like a pillow fort. As a bonus I can look up from my screen to get a quick burst of contentment. :-)

I kept expecting the soup-steam dwarf to turn nasty. I was glad it all worked out for Cantilla. I do quite a lot of DPLing - especially kids stories, - so I expect I'll be able to listen in on your fixing-up-the-room progress.

Thanks. Ignatius, the LibriPenguin of Happiness Image will waddle this into the Magic Window for proof listening.

This story has already been PLed and given the OK; why did you record it again? If you just thought you could do it better, we generally don't do that because the prooflistener now has to listen to it all over again. If there is something else going on, just ignore this. Anyway, please let me know if you did record it again so I can mark it needing PL. thanks.

Oops sorry, I just thought it might sound better without the echo. Anyways, I don't need another PL, I am good with the first version so no need for extra work
