Hast Thou been working?, by Ada Negri (1870 - 1945)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/hast-thou-been-working-by-ada-negri/
Multilingual Monthly Poetry Project is a project oriented to gather multiple translations and multiple contributions of one chosen poem for the current month. Welcome to the world of interpretations!

While dreaming about love, the young poetess tells us what type of man she chooses as her lover: it won't be a wealthy bachelor who has never worked in his life and spends his days with cards and booze, but a man, whose chest is burning with the fire of ardor and perseverance.

Poem of September, 2022 - "Hast Thou been working?" by Ada Negri. Language of origin: Italian, "Hai lavorato?". (Summary by Anastasiia Solokha)

Contents:

  • Found another PD translation of the poem? We welcome it here! Please share the link in the thread. We will confirm that it's OK to use for LibriVox and add it to the list above.
  • You wanted to contribute but saw that someone had already recorded in that language? Record! Because we are looking for interpretations here.
  • Feel free to record in multiple languages.
NOTE! Only three volunteers (the first to record and post it here) can contribute the English version of the poem. Please, understand, we want to focus on other languages here. However, we can consider more contributions in English if you find another PD English translation (i.e. by another translator) than the one already used.
  • Like the poem but the English version is already occupied? Consider contributing it to the Short Poetry Collection.

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

Hi—I seem to see some references to the previous poem (in the yellow boxes in the first post). This month is Negri’s poem, correct?
Thanks,

I'd like to do an English one. Is this the right link?
I don't know how to find language code. I used "en" for english

I'll happily do French too if you find a link for it.

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Hello Czandra!
Thank you for the enthusiasm! For this project one doesn't need to claim but to just post the recording when it is ready. You can start recording the verse while we are still waiting for the MC to pick up the project. :)

Are you asking about the link above? Yes, the English one is correct. The poem starts at the bottom of the page on the left.

Oh, I see. :) Isad said that she was going to buy the book as there was no scanned version of it in the internet though the book was in the PD. So I am waiting for her.

As for the code you chose the right one. Anyway recordings are renamed when cataloging it is just for me to understand which language it is and to choose it in the Meta data correctly.

I got it. I scanned it :D
It will take a little time to put it online because it requires double verification on https://ebooks-bnr.com/, a Swiss site of French-speaking authors in the public domain.

Thank you Isad! I've also recorded the German. I don't mean to be greedy, but I thought it would be interesting to do three translations. Each one enriched by the last!
Can we include two french versions?

Je sais que normalement c'est vous qui faites ces poèmes, Isad! Merci de me le laisser cette fois, surtout après avoir acheté le livre! Est-ce que l'on peut inclure deux exemples - vu qu'on en permet trois en français?

This is the meaning of the project to begin with like Weekly Poetry but for all the languages. So of course you can record in as many languages as you want and each language can have as many contributions as there are volunteers (but English is restricted to three recordings). :)
