Thanks for listening! Apparently the author of grillon was emperor, etc., hence the long name. There's a children's story about the long Japanese names - how pronouncing them gives people time to contemplate, but can also cause fatal delays! Tikki tikki tembo no sa rembo chari bari rucchi, pip peri pembo! I have it memorized from when I used to read it to children decades ago.

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to verify public domain status of this text. There's no publication date on the title page, which is our primary method of determining US copyright status for scanned books. On the Archive page, its publication date is given as 1900. I went to the catalog of the organization which uploaded this scan (University of Toronto), and what they actually have there is not "1900", but rather "19--". This means they know that the book was published sometime in the 20th century but they don't know when. They must have entered zeros in place of dashes for the Archive upload because of format restrictions on the upload page. This gives no indication that it was published before 1927. When there's no date on the title page of a scan, it's better to double-check with us before recoding.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I'm really sorry, I thought that the date on the site was to be considered. Thanks for informing me. I'll keep that in mind next time. For now, let me find something in public domain
Nidra
ok that makes sense. Interesting, thanks for sharing.
However, I think you reuploaded the wrong files, in both the corrections still have not been made could you try reuploading the edited versions once more please ?
Sonia
Very sorry to have caused extra work, Sonia. I had saved the new recordings to the wrong file I think I've got them in the right place now.
EDIT: No, I don't! For some reason, it doesn't want to over-write the SPES file. I'll have to recheck file names, etc. ... Le Grillon is now the right one.

okay, I got it. Both files successfully reloaded with corrections. (I think!)

Hello,
I'm not sure this little excerpt will do for your collection; nor about the best intro/outro and file name for it...
Anyway, here's my submission ready for PL (hi Sonia!)

Unfortunately, we can't use this source at LibriVox, because it was published in 1976 and so is not in the public domain in the US, where our servers are located. Please see item #1 in the instructions at the top of this thread for more information on what sources we can use, and you're always welcome to check with us in advance about a source you'd like to record.
Thanks,
Michael
Apologies, I forgot to check the publication date. I'll try and find an older source. Thank you Michael.Kazbek wrote: ↑September 19th, 2022, 2:30 pmHi,DrSpoke wrote: ↑September 19th, 2022, 2:18 pm Text: https://archive.org/details/petronio-arbitro.-satyricon-bilingue-lat.-ital.-ocr-1976/page/87/mode/2up

here is a PD source: https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_qAE_I-V2pQIC/page/n3/mode/2up
if you can find the page where your poem is from and check whether it's the same wording, we cannot use a non-PD new edition in case it's been modernized in some way.
I am not sure about using excerpts. Usually we take entire parts. If this is subdivided into cantos or numbered stanzas, then I guess we could accept and use one of them as an entity, but simply randomly choosing a dozen lines out from a big poem, that's not usually what we include. Is your selection a "closed entity" ?
Sonia
Many thanks Sonia for your help.
I think I'll let it go though; the excerpt, a story within a story, is dangerously close to the wrong side of the "closed entity" definition.
Anyway, just to share what's special about it: an (old times) inventor of a sort of unbreakable glass is removed from existence together with his discovery which, if made known, would seriously upset the economic and market value of established assets.
Maybe one of you latinists might want to record it as part of the dinner narrated by Petronius.
Best

সাবধান spelt perfectly!
Regarding the PL, if it's ok I can have the husband give it a listen and check if I've read it right. The intro and outro should be ok since it's in English. Or if your friend from the 031 collection might oblige, we could reach out to them?
