The Сonflict, by Friedrich Schiller (1759 - 1805)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-conflict-by-friedrich-schiller/
Multilingual Monthly Poetry Project is a project oriented to gather multiple translations and multiple contributions of one chosen poem for the current month. Welcome to the world of interpretations!

Poem of January, 2022 - The Conflict, by Friedrich Schiller. Language of origin: German, "Der Kampf".

The poet suffers sorely from the love to another man’s wife: the conflict of passion and duty gnaws his heart. At last, he decides to leave. But could his feelings be mutual? (Summary by Anastasiia Solokha)
Each month a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers and in as many languages as possible!

Public Domain sources for this month's poem are linked below. Please read only from these sources:

English (Translator: Edgar A Bowring, published 1874) occupied
French (Translator: Adolphe Regnier, published 1878)
French (Translator: Xavier Marmier, published 1874)
German (original langauge, published 1873)
Italian (Translator: Andrea Maffei, published 1884)
Polish (Translator: Józef Dionizy Minasowicz, published 1872)
Russian (Translator: Apollon Maykov, published 1901)
Spanish (Translator: Juan Luis Esterlich, published 1907) (p. 115 for the downloaded book)
Ukrainian (Translator: Panteleimon Kulish, published 1909). If this link doesn't work, please, use the following one: Tvory Kulisha and find the poem "Боротьба" on p. 426.
  • Don’t see a language in the list above? Please post a link to a Public Domain translation in another language. We will confirm that the source is OK to use for LV and add it to the list above.
  • Found another PD translation of the poem? We welcome it here! Please share the link in the thread. We will confirm that it's OK to use for LibriVox and add it to the list above.
  • Feel free to record on multiple languages.
NOTE! Only one volunteer (the first to record and post it here) can contribute the English version of the poem. Please, understand, we want to focus on other languages here. However, we can consider more contributions in English if you find another PD English translation (i.e. by another translator) than the one already used.
  • Like the poem but the English version is already occupied? Consider contributing it to the Short Poetry Collection.

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

LibriVox recording settings: mono (1 channel), 44100 Hz sample rate, 128 kbps constant bit rate MP3. See the Tech Specs

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning.

NOTE! If you read the poem in another language, consult the second posting below this one (here) for the disclaimer in other languages and please help us add new languages.
The Сonflict by Friedrich Schiller, translated into English by [translator’s name], read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem (use one of the public domain texts linked at the beginning of this post).

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

• Language
• Translator, if applicable (birth year - death year)
• Source from which you read (i.e. Gutenberg etext url)

• If this is your first Librivox recording, I will also need your name as you would like it to appear on the catalogue page and the URL of your homepage if you have one and would like it linked to your name on the catalogue page.

Check back in a day or so for any feedback regarding your reading.

Deadline: Please submit your recording by 06:00 GMT Monday, February, 28, 2022 (12:00 AM CST)

OK, your MW is ready.

I've posted over in the "suggestions" forum for help finding additional translations.

And since we're all set, we'll just hop on over to the LOTE readers wanted board.

Hi there!!

I just found a spanish traslation for the Schiller's poem "Der Kampf" in public domain, traslated by Juan Luis Esterlich (1856- 1923) : http://bdh-rd.bne.es/viewer.vm?id=0000200812&page=1

Is a 1907-1908 edition, in pdf page 133, and 115 page of the book. If you think interesting to add a new version of the poem, I could read it if you like.

Cheers!

Нажаль, знайти італійською я не зможу, так як її не знаю. Було б добре, якщо ти зможешь знайти PD переклад. Я його додам до першої публікації, щоб їм могли скористатися також наші італійські друзі.
