I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Hi Czandra,

It's great to see another reading of Quebecois literature, but I'm afraid we can't use this particular source. :( It's not a scan and I don't see any mention of the date of publication of the edition from which it was derived. One page says "Édition de référence : Fidès, coll. Bibliothèque québécoise." Éditions Fides was founded in 1937, which means their publications are not PD in the US. I see several PD editions of this novel at the Archive. Here's one:

https://archive.org/details/lesancienscanadi00aube_1

Before we ask Sonia to PL, could you verify that the text matches your reading? If it doesn't, hopefully there's another PD edition which does.

Thanks,
Michael

thank you, Mayah, beautiful recording and an interesting find for this collection :)

Only two small adjustments:

> at 0:06: in this project we always include a reference to the language, could you please insert "read in Portuguese for Librivox.org"
> also in the beginning you start a little be too abruptly, it risks to be cut off. We always recommend between 0.5 and 1 second of silence at the beginning

thank you

Thanks, Michael: a couple of small differences, now recorded at 19min. 18s

from the source you found. I'm just learning how to work with PD.

Cxe La Fajrejo
Esperanto

fairy tales, horror stories

Note: The "x" (i.e., Cxe) is the accepted Esperanto way to include the "hat accent" if keyboard/text doesn't allow it. Anyone reading the title as Cxe La Fajrejo will recognize it.
I'll be away April 16-22.

Thanks for making those changes, Czandra! We're always happy to check the copyright status of a source for you before you record.

By the way, normally I would recommend the Multilingual First Chapter Collection for this, but we don't currently have a volume open.

hmm, yes this is a bit tricky, usually we do only include "finished" sections (poems, short stories, essays) in this project, not random chapters as excerpts from a whole novel :? And please note if ever you consider recording this book as solo, you have to re-record the first chapter from scratch if you include it in this section. We never use the same recording in two different projects. Actually the book seems interesting to do as project, and not just the first chapter.

Well...since the First Chapter Collection is not running right now, I think we can make an exception and include it here, but I am still a bit reluctant. At least we have to make a change to the intro title, because it's only a chapter and not the whole book.

Could you record the intro this way please:

"La sortie du collège, chapitre premier de Les anciens Canadiens de Philippe Aubert de Gaspé" (then follows the usual LV disclaimer)

I will also name it that way in the MW.

The rest was flawless. Thank you

luckily I am able to reproduce that letter on my computer, so I can update the MW with the correct title: "Ĉe la fajrejo".

Interesting find, thank you so much. This poem is completely PL ok. Nice reading. :)

Now we have over 20 submissions already, but a few sections need to take care of their PL notes before being completed, so the first 5 that do so will be finishing up our project and the remaining will be transfered to the next collection. We also keep the project open for new contributions as long as the 5 sections are not yet edited.

I will withdraw it and wait for someone to open a first chapter index. As a solo, it's too long for me (and, honestly too masculine!).
