Le Rime di Dante Alighieri (1265 - 1321).

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/le-rime-by-dante-alighieri/

Questions for potential MCs:
1) These are mostly going to be very short tracks (poems ranging from sonnets to canzoni). Can we use the abbreviated version of the intro after the first one?
2) I'm not entirely sure what to have readers say for section title in the intros. I don't really want to just use the numeration, especially as various scholars have since used different systems, so that doesn't really give the listener any useful information and in fact may actually confuse the listener. However, these poems don't really have titles and are usually identified by the capoverso (first verse), which is how I plan to identify them in the MW. But it seems silly to have readers say at the end of the intro "Le Rime di Dante Aligheri, [CAPOVERSO]" and then start in on the poem...which begins with the capoverso. Thoughts?

Hi Mary! Let me MC this one! It will be an interesting challenge for me to MC an Italian project! :D

I'll go set it up, and then we'll address any issues.

OK! Magic Window in place and ready to be filled in!

I have added the _128kb in the filename , and a note that the ID3 tags can be ignored for this project as they will be filled in at cataloguing (so you could delete that part altogether from the post if you think it will make things simpler).

About the intro, I think there are two kinds of shortened intros, one is for solos, and the other is for poetry collections in their entirety. If this project does not consist of poems only, let's use the normal intro.
And about section titles, I see within the book that there are titles like "Sonetto V", "Balatta II", "Canzone I", etc. https://archive.org/stream/lerime00aliggoog#page/n109/mode/2up Could these be used as section titles by the readers?

Thanks, Rapunzelina!

Yes, they are poems only. I wasn't planning to include the Boccaccio prose at the beginning of this edition, just the Rime by Dante. So in that case we should use the shortened intro, right?

Yeah, those numbers are the ones I'm afraid could be confusing, especially because this editor starts over 5 different times, so there are 5 different "Sonetto I"s, etc. (Sonetto, Canzone, etc are just the types of poems). Should we just go with a straight-up section number then, from 1 to 104?

Only poems? These will make things easier! Consider the following, translated in Italian:

At the beginning say: "Section # of Le Rime di Dante Alighieri, read for LibriVox.org [optional: "by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Then read the poem

At the end, say: "End of Poem/Sonetto/Canzone/etc. This recording is in the public domain."

At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of Le Rime di Dante Alighieri."

So, no need for section title between intro and poem. What do you think?

Perfect! Will translate this and edit the first post. I assume the very first track should still have the full intro, right?

No, all the tracks have this same intro for poem projects.

The one with the long first intro is what is used for solos. But in poem projects, all have the same one!

And I have just moved us to Readers Wanted. Now that we have an international subforum, this might be a better place to get a DPL :)

Just a suggestion, since I have BCed a Portuguese collection which is similar to this one - Camões' Sonnets, 16th century poetry, also no titles, different numbering depending on edition, etc. What we used as the "title", following scholarly practice for that author, was the beginning of the poem, usually the first verse or part of it. I am no Dante scholar, but I think I have seen his Rime referred to by the first line. That is also what we have done with Petrarca's Canzoniere https://librivox.org/canzoniere-rerum-vulgarium-fragmenta-vol-1-by-francesco-petrarca/).

Thanks, Leni. That's exactly what I plan to use. The issue was whether it would sound weird and repetitive in the intro, but since we figured out that we can use the abbreviated intro, I think we are good. :) Now I just need to set up the MW and get us rolling.

Ok, one more question for you admin types: :)

This edition is really old. A lot of scholarship has happened in the past century and a half. Some of the poems in here are mistakenly attributed to Dante. I assume that I should just include them as they are and make a note in the project description?
