hello guys.. my name is Irman, i'm new here, in fact this is my first post, and I'm Indonesian. I try to listen to chapter 4 where you said would need an editing, and after i listen to it, yes it really need some editing.. :P

Well, i try to do some editing to it, deleted the long pause, try to amplify the sound here and there, but i don't think it's quite good, please fix it if you feel it needs fixing. Sorry I don't have a good editing skill, i just bump to the forum when looking for some free stuff in the internet, then i get curious about the indonesian audiobook here, it said need an editing, try the audicity software, and there you go, hope this help. :)

Hello Irman,
Welcome to Librivox!! Very happy to meet you. And thank you so much for editing. I don't know any Indonesian myself, so can't tell you how you've done :) but as far as I can tell it sounds better. Our prooflistener (David) will be along at some point to do a double-check.

This helps a lot. So, how did you like it? Do you feel like any more editing? :D (We could even perhaps make it a combined effort - if for example you focus on fixing the Indonesian reading, while someone else can fix things like background noise)
Or perhaps you would like to try and record a chapter? :D

Thank you for welcoming me.. :D

Well, I've only listened to a few recording in this book and although the quality is not very good but it is still acceptable and understandable to Indonesian listener.

In my personal opinion, the chapters that being read sometime is hard to understand since the pace is not constant, and the intonation and expression is lacking. But then again, this is not a professional work right? I really appreciate the effort that have been given for this project. :)

I dont know about becoming a reader, i would like to try sometime, but as for now i dont have the time and the resources to do it. But if you want me to do a little editing like i did in chapter 4, that i can still do.

Irman

Note: I'm going to listen to chapter 22, 15, and 26, and will do some editing to the files to fix the indonesian reading.

EDIT:
done with chapter 22

Great, thank you!
A little bit delay in replying caused by my absence on a holiday - am just quickly checking in on hotel connection. Will be home only later this week (no airplanes to get me home due to the volcano, so will have a longer travel!)

Hi!
Another first timer here :)

It seems that the project is moving very very slowly, so I thought I'd just give it a go. I read chapter 6, here is the link to it:

http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/lz/80hari_06_verne.mp3

Is it okay? Volume, noise, etc.

cheers,

Oh wow, elvy - I'm so sorry, I must have overlooked a new post in this thread!! Welcome to Librivox - I hope your long wait has not put you off - because your recording sounds absolutely wonderful :D I don't know any Indonesian, but your voice is very clear and pleasant to listen to.

All the technical settings are correct. Only, the recording volume was too low. This is very easy to correct afterwards, but because all the recording is increased then, a little bit of background noise will appear (which is hardly noticeable in the original recording). So I did a little bit of noisecleaning - and re-uploaded a version:
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/lz/80hari_06_verne.mp3

If you agree, I'd like to use this in the project.

I hope you will be back for more! This project is really worth it to be completed I think :D
For future recordings: try to get the input louder, so that you don't have to increase the volume afterwards so much - however, sometimes it's not possible (I always have to increase the volume on my own recordings a little bit after I've recorded).

Here are some good bits of information on these subjects:

On amplifying the volume of your recording: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Amplifying

On noisecleaning: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Improve_Your_Recording#Background_Noise or http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning

By the way - what name would you like to use as your catalog name? This can be the same as your forum name, or your real name, or another pseudonym or whatever you like :D

And which other chapters would you like to sign up for  I hope

Hi Anna,

I'm glad that I got a reply, I was afraid that the project is somehow abandoned. :D

Thanks for the compliments :), I hope that it's also good enough for any Indonesian listeners regarding pronounciation and intonation. This translation is written in old spelling and some words aren't used anymore, so it was quiet hard to read aloud. I think I spent 3-4 hours for that chapter. XD

Please use my real name (Elvy Liu).
I thought as long as I have time, I'd do the chapters one by one. So next I'll do chapter 7, and then ch. 10, etc. Thanks for the tips, hopefully the next recording will be much better. :)

And I'll ask my friends, maybe I can get some to join us. :)

Hi Elvy,
No the project is still going :D - and usually my responses are much quicker if I'm around - here is your very own LV catalog page: http://librivox.org/newcatalog/people_public.php?peopleid=5449

My guess is, if the words are so old that you don't know exactly how to pronounce it, probably most people listening won't know exactly either! So they will believe your way of pronunciation :D But yes, recording is harder work than it appears at first. It's not strange for a regular text to spend really 3 times as much time or more on it than the final recording, especially in your first recordings, and especially if the text isn't easy. So you're not alone!

Would be great if you could find some friends to join in the fun! As you can see in the notes in the MW, we also need some editors for files that other people have made. So if you have some shy-but-technically-gifted people among your friends, who don't dare to record their own voice - we can also use help with editing!

I'll send David a PM to find out whether he is able to prooflisten to your file.

Hi Anna, hi David,

here is the next chapter: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/lz/80hari%20_07_verne.mp3

I increased the input but didn't do any noise cleaning since it seems fine to me. But maybe my definition of fine somewhat differs from the standard here. ;)

I'll do chapter 10 next week.
Have a great weekend! :)

Thanks David!
And thank you Elvy - volume & background sound fine to me too :)
Could you let me know the duration of the recording?
Also - be careful with the mp3 names - the %20 code in the name means that you've left a space there (our server doesn't like that :)). I'll change this one later (unless you have to do some editing anyway).

Looking forward to chapter 10!
