Ditto. If you prefer, Yuqing, I could do the edits and let you do the spot PL.
indeed, even better. That way the PL stays the PL. Thank you, Michael, if you wouldn't mind doing this. :9:

Ok, no problem. I'm afraid we'll need to delete the extra passages, because the Wikisource link is unreliable for PD determination. There's no information about the year of publication, and the notice at the bottom even misstates the copyright law for the US, giving it as the example of death+80 countries!

yes I was afraid of that...best err on the side of caution and delete.

So I guess the other two sections may have such passages as well.

What should we do with this section?
Hi Yuqing,

Thanks again for the PL notes. As discussed above, I'll make those edits for your spot PL. What do you think about the missing 著 characters? I see that the Gutenberg text has a few of those in your story as well (e.g., 他一手擎煙卷,一只手扶酒杯...). I would say these can be considered as typos that the reader could reasonably correct if using that source, and so we can ignore these deviations for the PL. Would you agree?

Section 03 - see PL notes

Thanks for the wonderful reading! It’s certainly one of the best Chinese recordings I’ve ever PL-ed in LibriVox. A few issues I’d like to raise:

2:07 - 3:03 This paragraph isn’t in the Gutenberg source, but I did find it in other texts, eg https://zh.m.wikisource.org/zh-hans/%E5%9C%A8%E9%85%92%E6%A8%93%E4%B8%8A. This is the full version and it should be in the public domain.

10:11 - “我的心顫動” 顫動 was read as 顫抖著
But if we’re using the Wikibooks link above, it should be 顫動著

23:25 - The Gutenberg source ends here
23:30 - (5s for the date of writing) The Wikibooks source ends here
23:39 - (9s for publishing info) Recording ends here, followed by name of reader and 5s of silence.

What should we do with this section?
Section 3 is ready for spot PL. I've removed the extra passage 2:07 - 3:03 and the publishing info at 23:25 - 23:39.

Thanks!

Thanks for the offer, Yuquing! I'm half done PLing section 2, and Tina has signed up to PL section 4. You're definitely our resident PL expert for Chinese, so I'm sure we'll be keeping in touch. ;)

After PM discussion with Vivienne, we agreed that we could "rescue" the sections from the abandoned Chinese project "Wandering" by Xun Lu (1881-1936). There are 3 sections that we can take over here, the other 2 unfortunately are not yet in the PD.

I will contact a Chinese Prooflistener who agreed to check against the Gutenberg source once again. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24042
If the text is identical, then we can use the sections here in this project. Vivienne is still around and can do corrections, Jing unfortunately hasn't replied to my PM and has not logged in for some time, so she may probably not be available anymore. Let's see the verdict of the PL first.

To update the MW, here are the details. I don't know an "alphabetical" order for Chinese, so I let you decide for that Michael ;) The same for the transcription. Maybe our DPL can help.

Section 2 needs 3 fixes:

1) The publishing info at the end, which is not in the PG text, needs to be deleted. This passage at 36:36.5-36:39 is clearly separated in the soundwave.
2) The final silence needs to be shortened to ~5 seconds.
3) The recording needs to be deamplified. Checker shows 95.0 dB.

Sonia, if you would like to make these changes, I'll do spot PL.

thank you so much for the precise PL, Tina ! I have notified Vivienne via PM so that she can have a look at the notes.

I wanted to ask: are these errors really big errors that are changing the text and meaning a lot ? Because we are not too strict, if it's simply a small matter which doesn't really change the meaning. Example in English. "I spoke again" or "I again spoke".

We wanted to make sure that the PD text has not change too much, as you can see in the other sections there were some lines added which were not yet included in the PD version.

Maybe Michael, Yuqing and Vivienne can have a look as well and see if all this is crucial to edit.

Thank you !

ok I never thought I would fix anything in Chinese  Since I have no idea what I'm doing here, I did exactly what you told me to:

> cut from 36:36-36:39 (there was something else after this, I guess it's the end disclaimer )
> end silence now 5 seconds
> volume decreased by -5, now about 89 dB (wow there was some clipping, didn't it distort the sound too much ?)

let's hope it all is ok now:

Recording time: 36:45 min.

Thank you Michael !

Oh and since we still haven't heard anything back from the Polish reader Sandy, but we're near the end and the edits are quite easily done as well, could you do those and I Spot PL this section as well ? Then we can wrap up soon. The PL notes are on page 3, it's only a few long silences that need to be cut down.

Hmm, most of these seem to be fairly subtle. I would not venture to evaluate them myself (let's just say Chinese isn't among my top 10 strongest languages...) I think we'd like Vivienne to be aware of a few guidelines:

1) For the standard level of PL, it's up to the reader to decide whether they want to fix minor deviations from the text, unless they alter the meaning of the text in a drastic way.
2) We ask readers to address PL notes by editing their existing file rather than recording it from scratch, especially for a long reading like this.
3) If the reader decides to address some of the PL notes, but not others, they should let the PLer know which places are changed, so they can do spot PL just of those places.

Thanks to Tina for PLing, and thanks again to Vivienne for the recording! We're happy to help with any technical issues, such as the editing process.

I didn't notice the clipping while listening. I guess it's because the clipped peaks were all very "thin".

So can you please make a few cuts here:

> from 0:18-0:25: between intro and title

> from 17:37-17:40: between "ze maz ma slusznosc" and "chory codzien"

> from 21:54-21:59: also between end of story and end disclaimer

> at 22:06: at the end of each recording, however, we leave a standard of 5 seconds of silence. You stop quite abruptly. Please add 5 seconds here
I've made these changes and also trimmed the silence at the start. Section 16 is ready for spot PL.

thank you, Michael, PL ok now.

So all we need is the last Chinese submission. I hope Vivienne is checking the thread. I notified her in a PM at least.
