Buongiorno a tutti.
Avrei pensato di dedicare le ore lavoro del nostro Annual Day of Caring, per la lettura di un libro in italiano fatta da me e dai miei colleghi.
Ho però bisogno di aiuto/supporto. :help:

Good morning to all.
I planned to support LibriVox project during our Annual Day of Caring, the reading of a book in Italian with my colleagues.
But I need your help/support. :help:
1. How can I find a list of books in Italian out of copyright?
2. Indicatively for inexperienced people, how many pages can you record in about 7 hours?
3. We have some corporate computers and this could lead to some problems in downloading the recording programs: which one(s) would you suggest?
4. A suggestion about a book to read?
Thank you for all the support you can give me.

LibriVox is not really a good place for a "one day and done" project. Will the readers come back and make changes to their files, if needed? Or will they disappear after their 7 hours are done, whether or not there are usable files?

What if the book isn't completed in the day? Will the person coordinating it disappear, or will they stay until the project is completed (which may be months, depending on how long the book is)?

I suggest either working on an existing project rather than starting a brand new one (one that has a coordinator already), or recruiting an experienced coordinator to start a project for you, but who will also see it through to completion if it's not all recorded and proof-listened in time.

Another option is to not do a book at all, but do short works (stories, poems, essays) and submit them to the multilingual collections. We may still have the problem of readers disappearing without completing any edits, but we have better mechanisms for dealing with that.

Here is the current Multilingual Short Works project: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=83231
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart
Humor: My Lady Nicotine

Before coming in the forum, I wrote an email to LibriVox asking for the opportunity to follow my idea. 7 hours multiplied for 15 people are more then 100 hours and what I was asking for is a suggestion for a book that allows us to finish the project. I'm the coordinator for my company's Day of Caring and I'm not used to start a thing "just for do it" and than disappear, but if an expert coordinator is available to support us, he or she will be more than welcome!
We would like to have "our" project" because of the purpose of the Day and I'm sure if someone more expert will help us, we can choice the right book

Attendo i tuoi ulteriori suggerimenti!

OK, I think that gives us some time to organize it. How is your recording environment? Will the readers record in the same room? (that would probably be too noisy) Or is each computer at a different room? Will each reader use a different computer? Or share maybe 5 computers? (each different computer will need to have the recording setup tested for its tech specs in Audacity)

Gutenberg.org would be the best option for a book, but as Pier said you probably don't have access. Would you check to make sure? This is the Italian section of gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/browse/languages/it See if you can access any of the books and let me know.

If not, we'll look for other public domain Italian sources.

Edit: I am sorry for my absent-mindedness! I understand now that this is a lock-down situation and each person is on their own. Tell me about the equipment, are all computers the same (same operating system, same kind of microphone, etc), or each computer is different? (I'm asking because this information will help when setting up audacity or giving instructions specific to each setup). Also, do all participants speak English, or will you act as translator when something needs to be explained?
Thanks!

Good morning. Every reader is at home with their computer and we'll be in connection through Teams. The computers are two different models, same operating system, same settings, but different headphone: do you think this could be an issue to be fixed?
All the participants speak English (we are a multinational Company), not all at the same level. Yesterday night I tested Audacity: I was able to download and install the application and I tried to record a speech and everything was fine.
I think another important thing is to choose the book, to allow the readers to read their part before the day of the registration. It seems I have access to Gutemberg, I'll try today to search some books and I'll propose to all of you on order you can suggest to me the pro & cons of every choice. Thank you very much for your suggestion!

Grazie

Will each participant download audacity and record on their own computer? Sorry for the many questions. I am trying to visualize the setup so I can better make suggestions. Thanks! :D

As for a book, you could ask your group if they'd prefer reading fiction or non-fiction, to limit down the options. I would suggest a book with about 15 chapters, so that each participant reads one chapter (or if not, some might read two, or some might not read at all). That would be books around 300kb size in gutenberg.
For example, I have found a couple candidates from Pier's list that offer 15 sections:
Un cavallo nella luna: Novelle by Luigi Pirandello https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/56775
Eh! la vita....: Novelle by Luigi Capuana https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/42698
and there are probably more.
