Hi, all!

兒女英雄傳 (Ernü Yingxiong Zhuan)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ern%C3%BC_Yingxiong_Zhuan

The heroine 十三妹 (Thirteenth Sister) is very famous as a Chinese kunoichi, a ninjya woman in old China, and a master of Chinese Wushu. She is 安公子's the second wife. He has two wives. His father is a mandarin. Whereas he fails the exam again and again. His character is pure, honest, and gentle. In other words, naive and undependable. (公子 means prince!)

The beginning of the story:
The father directed flood prevention works far away. And he gets in trouble and arrested. 2,000 talents could save him. Now 安公子 is the deliverer. His long journey starts! (At this point, he is unmarried.)

I don't know the story in detail. Because I only read its spinout story by second-class novelist Taijyun Takeda (武田 泰淳). But I know it's very popular and fun. It's funny and heartwarming story like The Vicar of Wakefield. 安公子's servant 金 is a kid. He is a very young Sam Weller.

Any Japanese knows Sazae-san. Any Chinese knows 十三妹. Yes, I know you know on her. I also hope it completes.

It sounds like a very interesting book. We can only record books that were published in 1924 or earlier.

I found this on-line copy of the book: http://www.zggdwx.com/ernv.html

Unfortunately, we can't use that copy because we need to see the original book (or a scan of it) to see the publication date in 1924 or earlier.

Do you have a copy or scan of the book that shows a publication date?

Hi, MaryAnn-san.

I have some hints. The book has many alias names that follows:
金玉縁
鏡花縁
日下新書
正法眼蔵五十三参
児女英雄伝評話
児女英雄伝平話
講釈児女英雄伝

They say the first edition was published in 1878 (光緒四年). The second was done in 1880 (光緒六年). They are wooden prints.
